The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu is an Institution of the Aga Khan Health Service, Kenya, which is an Agency of the Aga Khan Development Network.

The Hospital is part of a network of health facilities, which includes Hospitals and Outreach Health Facilities across East Africa.

The Aga Khan Hospital is in an exciting growth phase and has attained acknowledgment of its quality by achieving ISO 9001:2015 certification, ISO 15189:2012 accreditation for laboratory services, SafeCare level 5 accreditation and is at advanced stage of attaining Joint Commission International Accreditation.

The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu has Outreach Health Services at Kisii, Kakamega, Kitale, Bungoma, Kericho, Kibuye-Kisumu, West End- Kisumu, Busia, Homa – Bay, Kapsabet, Migori, Bomet and Narok.

The Hospital is seeking to attract interested and qualified applicants to fill the following positions:

Application Developer

Ref. No: AKHK/ICT/AD/11/21

Overall Responsibility: Reporting to the Assistant Manager- ICT, the successful candidate will be offered technical support on building Software by writing codes and modifying software to fix errors, adapt it to new hardware, improve its performance, or upgrade interfaces. This enables the provision of timely, reliable, accurate and efficient information systems services to both staff and the customers.

Other Responsibilities

• Develop and implement In-house software applications by coding: (Testable, Clean reusable, Maintainable, Readable, Bug-free, and Smart codes)


• Identify areas for modification in existing programs and subsequently developing those modifications


• Support Multiple Business software applications by working with teams to understand issues and resolve them at the earliest time.


• Conduct Quality assurance (QA) Correction of errors through Changes and constant checking


• Documentation of process workflows and easy to understand representations of coding instructions


• Organize processes followed for developing and revising software’s


• Work with Infrastructure team and Database administrators to ensure that Databases and applications are backed up for business continuity


• Reviewing existing programmes for upgrades and updates


• Adhere to coding standards.


• Adherence to and practice of ICT Policies and legal requirements


• Comply with Institutional regulation on Fire and Health and Safety Regulations


• Environmental Care and Support for Going green Agenda

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related
  discipline, or Computer Science equivalent


• At least two years working in a similar role


• Sound knowledge of ICT infrastructure, software development and maintenance methods, tools and techniques and is conversant with ICT development standards


• A solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming and Design patterns


• Knowledge of programming principles involved software production methods, managing software products including analyzing information and using logic to address software related issues and problems


• Proficient in programming languages, set of codes and syntax (supported by software tools) which enable unambiguous translation of specified functionality into “source code” for the creation of computer programs e.g., Microsoft .Net, PHP, Python, C#, Java, Ruby, Web application frameworks, Front-end languages and libraries e.g., JavaScript, CSS, jQuery, XML and other languages VB, C++.


• Knowledge of Databases including Oracle Database and system analysis, quality, and software engineering metrics.


• Familiar with business analysis techniques e.g., functional business models, statistical process control, relational data modelling and use case.


• Experience developing desktop and mobile applications.


• Passion for learning and ramping up on new technologies and codebases.
