VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: CODERS

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an African-led and Africa-based international research institute committed to conducting high quality and policy-relevant multidisciplinary research.

Our researchers address critical development issues and challenges facing sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) in areas such as education, population, health, aging, urbanization, and wellbeing.

Our goal is to generate evidence for meaningful action, engage with policymakers in the region to disseminate our research findings, influence policy decisions, and improve the quality of life in Africa.

The APHRC invites applications for Coders who will be engaged from time to time.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Read through raw qualitative datasets/ transcripts derived from dialogues, focus group discussions, in-depth and key informant interviews to develop and produce an adequate codebook to code the data


• Systematically code and summarize the data into the identified themes/codes


• Write memos on the identified issues in the datasets/transcripts/emerging in the data


• Map the various concepts that emanate from the data graphically; and


• Prepare a coding report.

Minimum Requirement

1. Bachelor’s degree

2. Proficiency in using coding software such as NVivo, ATLAS.ti or MaxQDA

3. Previous experience in qualitative data coding using software mentioned above

4. Ability to work under tight deadlines without supervision

5. Self-discipline and ability to submit self-edited high-quality work.
