VACANT POSITIONS IN THE DEPARTMENT OF ROADS, TRANSPORT AND PUBLIC WORKS [VACANCY NO. 03/2021]

Assistant Engineer I (Mechanical) - ONE (1) POSITION VACANCY NO. 3/2021/09
Basic salary scale: Ksh. 42,970 - Ksh. 59,120 p.m. (Job Group ‘L’)
Allowances as per the SRC circulars attached to the position
Terms of service: three (3) years contract (renewable subject to satisfactory performance)

For appointment to this position, a candidate must:
i. Be a Kenyan citizen;
ii. Have served in the grade of Assistant Engineer II (Mechanical) or in a comparable and relevant position in the public service for at least three (3) years; OR Have worked or served as an Engineer (Mechanical) in a reputable organization for a period of at least 3 years;
iii. Have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized institution;
iv. Be registered by the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya;

Duties and responsibilities;
An officer at this level will work under the supervision of a senior officer. Duties and responsibilities will include;
i. Work planning and estimation of costs;
ii. Preparation of technical specifications and evaluation of tenders for vehicles, plant and equipment;
iii. Preparation of tender documentation for sale of plant, vehicles and equipment;
iv. General lay out drawing for new workshops and workshop improvement;
v. Maintaining records and preparing reports on testing programmes for vehicles and plants;
vi. Implementation of equipment management systems;
vii. Maintaining and submitting updated inventories of motor vehicles, plants and equipment;
viii. All kinds of inspection of motor vehicle, plant and equipment; and
ix. Management of transport office.
