Job Description


Responsibilities



  • Provide timely delivery of the programme, and support the following key outputs for the Science Policy Business Forum (SPBF) at SPBF@ AMCEN, Africa Climate Summit, COP28, UNEA6, DEAL 2023-2024, SPBF Africa 2024 and SPBF Asia Pacific

  • Participate in the input for program 713.2 linking to the Science Policy Interface, liaising with the program coordinator and ensuring alignment with UNEP’s Program of Work, Mid Term Strategy and the related projects.

  • Provide substantive programmatic support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda with key streams and topics, identifying and proposing participants, preparation of background documents and presentations, handling logistics, etc.

  • Monitors and analyzes of specific aspects of programme/project development and implementation; including reviewal of relevant documents and reports; successfully identify problems and issues to be addressed and recommends corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and tracks follow-up actions.

  • Provides administration support, well researched and sound analysis of issues and developments affecting program/project development, administration, and implementation, etc.

  • Provides practical and useful assistance in project implementation and offers effective support to intergovernmental processes. Provides thorough, well-reasoned written contributions. Effectively, and in a timely manner, liaises and interacts with colleagues and concerned parties internally and externally.

  • Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects, etc.; monitors and analyzes programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and tracks follow-up actions.

  • Researches, analyzes, and presents information gathered from diverse sources.

  • Assists in policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies.

  • Undertakes survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes, and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares conclusions. 

  • Prepares various written outputs, e.g., draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.

  • Undertakes outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars, etc.; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.

  • Participates in or lead field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries, etc.

  • Coordinates activities related to budget and funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and prepares related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.).

  • Contributes to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provides draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Education



  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics or a related field is desirable. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is an advantage.


Work Experience



  • A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration, or related area is required.

  • 1 year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable (none if successful YPP or P-1 with a related degree).


Languages



  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.


NOTE: "Fluency equals a rating of "fluent" in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and "Knowledge of" equals a rating of "confident" in two of the four areas.
