Job Title: Channel Manager – Pharmacy & Medical


Industry: F.M.C.G


Location: Nairobi


Gross Salary: Khs 100k – 150k


Our client is one of the leading FMCG companies in Kenya and they seek to hire a Channel Manager – Pharmacy & Medical Channel to manage the commercial objectives and interests of the organization and manage the pharmacy and medical channel as well as ensure that the outlined objectives and key performance indicators are met by liaising with cross-functional internal teams to achieve quotas.


The ideal candidate will serve as the lead point of contact for matters pharmacy and medical.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Provide dedicated focus to the pharmacy and medical channel, ensuring that the organization is driving towards their set key performance indicators to drive growth.

  • Provide key line of sight to the Business on the specific strategies and actions we are executing to achieve the set key performance indicators.

  • Lead the efficient execution of the company’s goals and objectives in the Pharmacy and Medical Channel ensuring that individual brand goals and the customer needs are met, including the sales, trade marketing strategies and working closely with marketing team on strategy.

  • Serve as the primary lead point of contact for our all matters pertaining to the Pharmacy and Medical Channels.

  • Build, nurture and maintain strong, long-lasting relationships between the organization and the Pharmacy and Medical partners.

  • Take the lead on value improvement initiatives including interface with functional units such as Key Accounts, General Sales, Supply Chain, Production and Marketing.

  • Collaborate with the Head of Consumer Sales – East Africa in conducting monthly performance review of your indirect reports. Follow up on agreed actions to ensure full execution within set timelines.

  • Highlight and address and gaps in performance or high performance and align on strategies and actions with the Head of Consumer Sales – East Africa. Follow up on agreed actions to ensure full execution within set timelines.

  • Initiate business review meetings and ensure all agreed actions are carried out within agreed timeframes.

  • Develop strategic sales plans and on shelf availability channel strategy for Pharmacy & Medical Channel geared to achieve defined business objectives across all relevant product categories.

  • Develop strategic training plans for Medical Channel geared to achieve defined business objectives across all relevant product categories.

  • Provide key strategic insights into the respective categories, the wider market, the channels, the customers served and the competitive environment.

  • From the insights, lead development of specific and focused strategies and actions that will lead to the achievement of the key performance indicators.

  • Drive execution of the identified strategies and actions through the relevant functional heads that will lead to the achievement of the key performance indicators.

  • Drive performance management on the key performance indicators including sales revenue, sales volume, product availability and trainings.

  • Conduct gap analysis and lead in coming up with relevant actions to address and close on noted gaps; take advantage of opportunity to realize growth and continual improvement.

  • Establish the must have SKUs in conjunction with the Trade Marketing Manager

  • Lead the monthly review meetings and report on key performance indicators, clearly indicating monthly performance versus target as well as cumulative (year to date) performance.

  • Carry out monthly goal sheet review for the team, identify gaps or top performers and action reference the same.

  • Lead in identifying opportunities for growth and in analyzing data for decision making on strategic and tactical plans.

  • Oversee and deliver successful product launches and listings as and when required.

  • Compile and submit progress of monthly / quarterly initiatives to internal and external stakeholders within the stipulated deadlines; Prepare monthly business review reports and initiate one-on-one sessions with the Head of Sales-Consumer.

  • Proactively identify and analyze problems: weigh relevance and accuracy of information; generate and evaluate alternative solutions; make recommendations. Consult the Head of Sales – Consumer for further guidance when policy decisions are to be made.

  • Maintain the strictest level of confidentiality and professionalism when dealing with information concerning the company including company performance, pricing policies, marketing plans, new products development, salaries, and any other information.

Key Requirements:



  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Sales and Marketing or related field.

  • Bachelor degree (or higher) in Science, Sales or related field.

  • Diploma in Sales & Marketing is an added advantage

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Sales or Marketing management role in the pharmacy/medical channel

  • Proven sales success record within a pharmacy/medical company with excellent understanding and an in-depth knowledge of the market and the changing environment.

  • Strong commercial understanding with intellect and curiosity.

  • Proactive and assertive with strong relational and networking skills.

  • Strong time management skills and self motivation skills.

  • Able to work under pressure and to meet strict deadlines under minimal supervision.

  • Have a valid driving license: be able and willing to travel across the designated regions.

  • Strong organization skills including time management and computer literacy
