Our Client, a Leading coffee chain with its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya is urgently looking to recruit an experienced an experienced Manufacturing Shift Manager.
The successful candidate will be responsible for setting the shift objectives, and ensure that the shift supervisors communicate and monitor all processing, production, storage and distribution activities in a shift to ensure that product is supplied as per the agreed specification, on time and in line with set budgets and standards.
He/she will also be responsible for the overall financial, safety, delivery and quality outputs of the shifts by using relevant monitoring tools to take appropriate action when data indicates that negative results may occur and other matters by performing the following duties;
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Strategy / Planning
- Set shift objectives, and empowers and motivates shift supervisors to reach desired outcomes regarding quantity and quality to ensure customer and food safety requirements are within specifications
- Translate the strategies relating to manufacturing, safety, quality and supply performance into day to day practice by leading from the front, and actively communicating performance data to his/her leadership team on a daily basis
- Develop a work environment that encourages compliance with the company policies
- Set performance metrics for each section and then work with the teams to make sure that all metrics are met
- Assign and allocates labor as per the requirement
- Responsible for ensuring that all sectional training matrices are up to date, and that no staff operate equipment or processes that they are not trained to use, and regularly reviews future training needs to ensure no such scenario may unfold
Implementation
- Actively develop the shift supervisors through regular coaching, feedback and guidance that builds communication and technical skills
- Support, deploy and provide input to the best in class production practices
- Educate workforce in the food safety fundamentals, takes a lead in the safety activities for the shift and ensures completion of the safety inspection and housekeeping audits that form part of the daily responsibilities of supervisors and team leaders
- Lead and motivate the teams to create high performance culture where improvement suggestions are embraced
- Understand and translate the shift objectives into a successful outcome through empowering his/her team whilst effectively using skills in regards monitoring, motivation, coaching and communication
Reporting and Evaluation
- Meet with the Manufacturing Manager to discuss the manufacturing goal and how the team is working to meet the goals
- Communicate with the supervisors delivering shift briefs with focus on quality, cost and compliance of plan
- Document and investigates safety incidents data and recommends mitigations actions, responsible for ensuring corrective actions are delivered on his/her shift
- Monitor the completion of plan and ensure good performance and records are captured
Budgeting
- To ensure the production and labor utilization are within the set targets and variables are reported investigated, and corrective measures taken
- Play an active role in considering future CAPEX requirements, advising the manufacturing manager of resource needs in the coming financial year
Key Competencies & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Manufacturing or any other related field from a recognized institution
- Must have at least 5 years food production experience
- 3 years managerial or supervisory in a FMCG field
- Experience of leading a team of 100 staff or more
- Able to achieve results by setting high standards and committing to clear objectives
- Strong leadership skills
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Ambassador for quality, safety and food safety
- Excellent IT and ERP knowledge
