Our client, a medium-sized well established non-governmental organization based in Nairobi, is seeking to recruit a qualified person to the position of Communications Coordinator.  

Communications Coordinator

The Role

Communications Coordinator spearheads the digital marketing, artwork creation, media management, and development of branding materials and offers support on Muungano Gender Forum (MGF) grassroots forums.

Main responsibilities will involve:
a.    Researching, preparing fact-checking, editing, and producing professional media and communications materials for MGF audiences and ensuring their timely dissemination. 
b.    Develop and implement the MGF Communications and Visibility strategy in cooperation with ISF partners.
c.    Write, edit, and oversee the production of materials for branding consistency and project narrative reports.
d.    Weekly based communication with ISF partner volunteers in Kisii and Nyamira counties to mobilize for upcoming MGF forums and events.
e.    Coordinate and manage all online platforms and other technologies relevant to project implementation. 
f.    Manage MGF online platforms by providing relevant details for upcoming forums. 
g.    Provide communication and media support to prioritize special events/workshops/meetings and conferences.
h.    Write acknowledgment messages to all MGF forum participants after every forum,
i.    Establish and maintain effective relationships with the media fraternity and maintain a relevant media database.
j.    Write, edit, and distribute content, including country coordination reports, social media content, annual reports, and other material that communicates the MGF activities.
k.    Ensure the project has the required communication package and preparation of information materials for dissemination within ISF partners and stakeholders.
l.    Advice on issues for project implementation
m.    Support ISF HQ Communications and fundraising initiatives, including organizing media visits, arranging interviews and photo/video opportunities, and identifying interesting stories.
n.    Support and advise on staff training needs in relation to communication.
o.    Provide professional communications advice to ISF partners and other ISF staff on an ongoing basis and prepare communications workshops and training.

The Person
The individual will be hardworking, possess a good work ethic, presentable, team player, with good communication and interpersonal skills. He/she must also possess an understanding of development partners, International Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Knowledge and experience in the NGO will be an added advantage. High integrity, ability to use discretion, flexibility, attention to detail, and being a self-starter will be essential.

Requisite Qualifications
•    A university degree in a relevant field: e.g., communications, international affairs, or related area
•    At least three years' related experience in communication and/or advocacy, campaigns, or events of public interest, preferably in the NGO sector.
•    Experience in writing and producing communications in English such as news stories, press releases, newsletters, and leaflets is desirable
•    Experience in internet and social media systems, applications, and interactive tools (such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube) and with standard computer applications is required.
•    Knowledge of relevant national and local policies, actors, and networks in the country of employment
•    Experience in community development and/or community outreach is desirable.
•    Experience in community mobilization and working with communities
•    Good skills in Office software packages, especially Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.)
•    The selected person is expected to regularly travel to the field
