About Light for the World


Light for the World is global disability and development organization that enables eye health and empowers persons with disabilities is some of the poorest regions in the world.


About InBusiness Initiative


InBusiness Initiative, an initiative of Light for the World in Kenya, aims to form an engagement platform between persons with disabilities and the public and private sector institutions for economic empowerment and addressing policy issues.


The Initiative brings together advocates of disability inclusion, public and private sector institutions to co-create models of sustainably engaging people with disabilities in employment, in business, or education.


This Initiative creates a space to explore what works in terms of economic empowerment of people with disabilities and give tools, learnings, practical cases to institutions that are working towards being inclusive.


Our mission is to economically empower communities through inclusive collaborations.


Our focus areas –



  • Building capacity of micro entrepreneurs and students with disabilities through business and technical trainings

  • Promoting inclusions in public and private sector institutions

  • Building a dialogue on disability related issues

  • Collecting evidence on what works in economic empowerment of persons with disabilities


About the team


We are a small but growing team. We are young, fun, agile and passionate about the work we do.


We have each other’s backs and support each other’s work whenever possible.


The ideal candidate would gel well into the team and keep up the team spirit.


About the role


The communications officer role is a cross cutting interdepartmental role.


While many tasks will be popping up which are abstract and on need basis, following are the main roles and responsibilities –


Support Programs team


a. Arrange for required Comms tools for programs team – presentation templates, word templates, logos, etc.


b. Help in copy writing on documents that are external facing.


c. Brainstorm on comms requirements for programs and events


Coordinate, Collect and Process media


a. Basic knowledge of photography – should be comfortable using a DSLR or high end mirror less camera.


b. Should have basic knowledge of maneuvering Adobe Creative Suite – image and video editing.


c. Organize and store media in high quality in photo libraries


d. Coordinate with programs team to collect media in trainings, events, etc.


Content, social media and website management


a. Plan, design and execute posts on social media


b. Update website backend with most relevant and latest information on programs and activities


c. Generate content – success stories and human interest stories from the program activities. Good writing skills required


Liaise with international team


a. Attend meetings regularly with international Comms team


b. Contribute to media and story requirements from international team


c. Organize and coordinate media field visits


Coordinate offline comms materials


a. Organize for printed merchandise and stationery from corporate printers


b. Design or coordinate with consultants to design merchandise and stationary


Coordinate with consultants and service providers and partners


a. Liaise with consultants and service providers – film makers, photographers, graphic designers, printing partners, etc., to produce high quality output that is ethically produced and can be used by Light for the World and partners.


b. Generate regular newsletters that will be sent to the Initiative partners


c. Safeguard the Light for the World branding manual and ensure its proper use within the organization, and outside


Who would be a good fit?



  • University graduate on streams relevant to media, communications and design

  • Experience of working in humanitarian sector is preferred

  • Passionate about disability inclusion

  • Quick learner, fun loving, creative

  • Comfortable with use technology, online apps
