Terms of Reference: Consultant Gynaecologist


Background: SOS Children‘s Villages Kenya runs programs that include Family Care, Family Strengthening, Education, Health, Youth Empowerment and Advocacy.


Started in 1973 in Buruburu (Nairobi), SOS Children’s Villages Kenya has expanded to 7 other counties in Kenya: Mombasa (1979), Eldoret (1990), Meru (2005) and Kisumu (2012) Busia and Homabay counties.


SOS CV Kenya takes care of over 15,000 children and youth under its programs


SOS Medical centers is one of the programs run by SOS Children’s Villages Kenya under health program.


SOS Children’s Villages Kenya provides individualized health care and supports communities in the development of improved health service infrastructure.


Currently, SOS Children’s Villages Kenya runs two medical centers in Nairobi-Buru Buru and Eldoret.


The medical centers serve vast clientele reaching an average of 80,000 clients per year.


Our mission is to be a trusted health-care partner to families by offering high quality, affordable medical services in a financially-sustainable manner.


Purpose: SOS Children’s Villages Kenya (SOS CV KE) wishes to engage a suitable, competent partner to improve the health of female patients at the Medical Centre by providing excellent care and advice on the basis of Memorandum of Understanding.


The consultant is expected to review and provide Medical treatment to Female clients at the MC Facility on issues related to the reproductive system periodically as reference is made from the clinicians at the facility. This will be done on a once weekly basis (1 day in a week) as per availability.


The Medical Centre will accord space for consultation and he will utilize our laboratory, pharmacy and ultrasound services accordingly.


Under Sexual Reproductive Health services, the Consultant will liaise with departments at the SOS MC facility such as CCC, OPD, ANC, FP and Nutritional Clinic to offer gynecological services as indicated and not limited to cervical cancer screening and perform cryotherapy as indicated.


The existing MC Consultative charges for the clients in areas of consultation, lab and pharmacy shall be observed but with an agreement on the Gynecologist Consultation Charges.


The consultant will also abide by the MC Service charter and Organizational Core Values and policies.


For patients that will need referral to other facilities for further management, the Consultant will liaise and have shared information with the facility in-charge and the ANC Nurse.


Scope and Specific Tasks:



  • Perform regular examinations on patients e.g. Annual checkups, PAP Smear

  • Analyze records, reports, test results or examination information to diagnose Medical Condition of patient

  • Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients

  • Monitor patients over the course of pregnancies

  • Treat Infections of the cervix, ovaries and fallopian tubes

  • Identify cancerous growths within the reproductive system

  • Refer patients to other Medical Specialists or practitioner where necessary

  • Provide postNatal Care advice where necessary


Deliverables



  • To provide Basic Obstetric and Gynecological services at the Medical Centre

  • Attend to ANC mothers referred to the Clinic from the ANC Clinic at SOS MC

  • Attend to FP clients referred to them from the FP Clinic at the SOS FP Clinic

  • Liaise with the Consultant Sonographer and Pathologist at the SOS Medical Centre for any investigations to be done


Duration:



  • The consultant is expected to propose a workable period on a once weekly basis.

  • The contract is renewed annually.


Cost Sharing:



  • The consultant shall sign an MOU with SOS CV KENYA detailing the cost sharing formula as proposed and agreed by SOS based on percentage of earned revenues.


Qualifications and Experience:



  • A Medical degree from a Recognized and accredited University in Obstetrics and Gynecology

  • Have a practicing License by KMPDU and professional Indemnity Cover

  • At least 2 years’ Experience as an obstetrician /Gynecologist


Expression of Interest (EOI):


In addition to satisfying the requirements indicated under qualifications and experience above, interested individual should submit a proposal based on the Terms of Reference outlined above complete with:



  • The methodology and proposed approach: this should describe your detailed understanding of the objective of the partnership and approach towards achieving them.

  • Relevant Certification docs: At least the Academic certificates, tax compliance certificate, Indemnity and relevant professional certification.

  • CV with at least 3 referees with contact information (phone and email)

  • List of equipment owned/lease and available for use in this partnership (attach relevant own/lease proof)

  • Cost sharing proposal
