Summary of Role:  


The Advisor, Country Performance and Special Initiatives will contribute to the CPSI team focused on two primary areas:


Country Performance: 


This team will play a crucial role in identifying needs and proposing solutions to help move countries along the path to country led. The CPSI team will develop and implement systems to monitor program quality and performance, including the country management dashboard, identify possible course corrections or adjustments, and document and propose lessons learned and next steps. Additionally, this team will provide strategic programmatic advice and support to activities in the Africa region and provide technical and subject matter expertise as needed. The CPSI team will also to play a key role in inputting, reviewing, and otherwise supporting business development and resource mobilization.


Special Initiatives: Special initiatives refer to timebound, priority projects that require the collective energy and intellect of various Pathfinders across the global organization. CPSI will identify and lead special initiatives in coordination with the Africa leadership team and define a process for implementing and assessing performance of special initiatives. Given the global nature of many special initiatives, such as increasing business development capacity in Africa country teams and improving and standardizing technical quality across countries, this team will act as convener and manager of cross-organizational and cross-functional teams, collaborating across all operating structures and departments.


Key Responsibilities:


Special Initiatives



  • Identifies and proposes special initiatives to Africa Leadership Team.

  • Contributes and owns pieces of process for identifying, implementing, and assessing performance of special initiatives as assigned.

  • Deploys TA, financial and other resources needed to implement special initiatives.

  • Directly project manages select initiatives and leads matrixed team to implement special initiatives.


Country Performance:



  • Implements systems to monitor program quality and performance (dashboard), identifies possible course corrections or adjustments, and documents and proposes lessons learned and next steps.

  • Acts as primary point of contact for programmatic activities in several countries, provides country-specific strategic, programmatic, and technical subject matter expertise as required.

  • Leads Associates and works collaboratively with CDs, Director, Africa Leadership Team, and relevant US Pathfinder units to provide operational support to project/program activities.


Collaboration:



  • Point person on specific country programs and strategic initiatives to work across BUs, including TSD, Operations, Finance.

  • Represent Africa structure on matrixed teams and global efforts.

  • Supervises Associates/Analysts on specific SI.

  • In partnership with CD and Director SI, acts as talent coach to country SMTs as needed to build capacity within Africa countries.


New business:



  • Works with the Director and Country Directors to identify new business opportunities in the region and assist in securing such opportunities.

  • Actively participates in coordination with other Business Units, lead or assist in the preparation of funding proposals/concept notes, strategies, work plans and assessments; analysis of relevant data and documents; aligning of project proposals with budget and other required activities to ensure submission of strong technical and financial proposals.

  • Represents Pathfinder Africa in external and donor relationships and with business development partners as needed.


Required Education and Work Experience:



  • Bachelor’s degree in management, public health, business, marketing, social science or related discipline.

  • 6 years’ experience in global health, business/management, or development with strong international background.

  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)

  • Both English and French Proficiency are required

  • Advanced skills in program and project management, financial management, and planning to fulfill performance objectives, including the timely implementation and reporting of donor-funded program activities.

  • Ability to demonstrate a high degree of flexibility in managing change across a broad group of stakeholders in an inclusive manner.

  • Intermediate skills in facilitating working relationships between key stakeholders including country teams, donors, partners, government officials, and communities.


Preferred Competence and Work Experience:



  • Experience with project or program management, strategy, and financial management.

  • Experience working in a global role at a global organization; preferred experience living or working in SSA.

  • Experience in non-profit management.

  • Experience in project design and new business.

  • Master’s degree (preferred, or equivalent years of work experience) in management, public health, business, marketing, social science, or related discipline.

Travel Requirements:



  • Travel required (10% or less)
