Post Title: Emergency Needs Assessment and Early Warning Specialist


Contract type: Personal Services Agreement (PSA)


Duty Station: Nairobi, Kenya


Duration: 6 months

Organizational Setting: Resilience teams have been established in order to support, at sub regional and country level, the development and implementation of programmes under Strategic Objective 5 “increase the resilience of livelihoods to threats and crises”.


The position is located in the FAO Representation in Kenya within the Resilience Team for Eastern Africa (RTEA).


Reporting Lines: The Emergency Needs Assessment and Early Warning Specialist will work under the direct supervision of the Preparedness and Response Advisor within the Resilience Team for Eastern Africa (RTEA) and with technical back-up and supervision of the senior technical officer in TCE with collaboration from the FAO’s Office for Africa (RAF), the Sub regional Office for Eastern Africa (SFE) and country Offices, the Emergency Needs Assessment and Early Warning Specialist will support all stages of the humanitarian programme cycle, including emergency preparedness, strategic response plan formulation, resource mobilization and the monitoring and evaluation of the strategic plan.


Technical Focus: The focus of the specialist’s work will be to provide needs assessment, early warning, and coordination support to help ensure that needs in the agriculture sector (including crops, livestock, fishery, and forestry)and of the crisis affected population (in terms of food security, nutrition and livelihoods) in East Africa are assessed, analysed and reported in an accurate and timely manner.
