Location: Kampala, Uganda


Our client, a digital marketing and advertising agency, is recruiting an experienced General Manager to join their growing team.


Job Purpose: To lead the planning, development and execution of the market strategy, ensuring the identification and generation of new business opportunities and contributing to the overall business expansion, profitability and sustainability.


Key Responsibilities and Deliverables:


Strategy Development and Planning 




  • Plan and execute the growth strategy to support business expansion, profitability and sustainability.




  • Act as a thought leader in defining the agency’s growth and expansion strategy, ensuring alignment to business and client priorities.




  • Develop strategic and tactical plans for the market teams.




  • Motivate market opportunities for business growth.




  • Develop and implement sales strategies




  • Compile, monitor  and manage budgets ensuring business profitability and achievement of set targets.




Delivery of client solutions




  • Identity and leverage strong networks with senior and external stakeholders to build pipelines, generate leads and maintain existing projects.




  • Analyze data to determine trends in market share, conduct research to identify new markets and clients.




  • Identify and map business strengths and client needs




  • Facilitate and participate in client briefing sessions.




  • Strategize client solutions to be implemented.




  • Conduct presentations to demonstrate the value proposition as per client desired solution. 




  • Manage client relationships at a senior level; ensuring healthy relationships and intervening when appropriate.




Operational 




  • Improve agency processes and how the agency functions as a business in response to market demands




  • Constantly evaluate the senior management’s performance and help them to improve their individual and teams’ performance.




  • Act as the central conductor for the agency, supporting the senior management team, new business team and Support Services (HR/Finance/IT etc) in improving operational processes, employee relations and client relationships.




  • Take responsibility for client and employee audits, improving scores year on year. 




Commercial and P&L Responsibility




  • Help to ensure business profitability (running staff cost meetings, ops meetings etc.)




  • Contribute to the reporting and forecasting process.




  • Keep abreast of market development and trends and actively network in order to identify potential opportunities for the agency.




Culture 




  • Effectively develop and grow connections, working relationships and joint ventures, inspiring innovation - Shift Culture




  • Understand and encourage the agency’s culture and long-term strategy. Aligning senior management in creating a more joined up business and encouraging collaborative working and aiming towards the same business and cultural goals.




  • Proactively lead and contribute to the on-going vision of the agency, leading by example and driving an entrepreneurial spirit within the management team. 




  • Work with the senior client management team in helping to shift the agency’s relationships with clients from pure service delivery to becoming more consultative partners. 






Key Requirements & Qualifications:




  • Proven experience as General Manager or in other managerial position




  • Relevant exposure to local and global digital marketing environment




  • Experience in developing profitable strategies and implementing vision




  • Strong understanding of corporate finance and performance management principles




  • Familiarity with diverse business functions such as finance, marketing, accounts, etc.




  • In-depth knowledge of general management best practices




  • An entrepreneurial mindset with outstanding organizational and leadership skills




  • Analytical abilities and problem-solving skills




  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills




  • MSc/MA in business administration or relevant field




Compensation: Competitive salary plus bonus on profit.
