The Human Resources Manager will direct, plan, organize and manage the Human Resources Department and its activities. He/she shall develop and implement human resource practices, policies and procedures that are reflective of business needs and that ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements and facilitate sound industrial relations management

Responsibilities:

• Developing and implementing human resource strategies, policies and procedures to support achievement of corporate goals and train managers on their application


• Keeping abreast with the legal requirements, ensuring compliance by the company and communicating these requirements to Senior Staff


• Take overall responsibility for manpower planning and coordinating the staff recruitment, and selection process as well as putting in place various recruitment methods to attract and retain a highly skilled workforce.


• Handle employee discipline ensuring that all disciplinary procedures are fair, transparent and aligned to the requirements of the relevant labor laws, internal policies and other applicable legal requirements


• Handle all staff grievances in a prompt, fair manner while paying heed to the company’s business needs and processes


• Put in place and implement a performance management system and oversee the development of a high performing culture


• Oversee employee learning and development and succession planning.


• Managing industrial relations optimally. Act as the key point of contact with trade unions and workplace committees.


• Take overall responsibility for ensuring that all terminations and dismissals meet the requirements of the labor laws, and internal company policies. Providing sound advice and guidance to the Directors on the employee separation process


• Implement employee relations, social and welfare activities, and employee support programs to create a conducive and respectful workplace and good working relationship between employees;


• Facilitate communication by providing guidance and consultation regarding problem solving, dispute resolution, regulatory compliance, litigation avoidance and strive to resolve internal conflict informally through appropriate conflict management and mediation techniques at the branch level;


• Develop cordial relations with the Shop Stewards;


• Oversee maintenance of human resource files and records in accordance with legal requirements and company policies and procedures;

Job Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Human resources, Social Sciences, general management or business administration.


• Higher National Diploma in Human Resources Management; member of IHRM Kenya


• At least five (5) years’ experience managing HR processes in a labour intensive and Unionisable environment


• Exposure to employee relations in a labour intensive and unionised environments


• Working knowledge in application of labour/ employment laws, employment relations law, employee manuals and handbooks


• Strong leadership skills.


• Excellent  oral and written communication skills


• High degree of integrity, very good communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
