Job Description


Responsibilities


Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.


Under the direct supervision of the Human Settlements Officer, SDG Localization and Local government, UPB, the intern will:



  • Support to the implementation of global projects on SDG localization and Voluntary Local Reviews, including UNDA Tranche 14 and 2030 Agenda sub-fund projects.

  • Support the development and implementation of bilateral cooperation projects with cities and local and regional governments and decentralized cooperation actors.

  • Facilitate tracking progress on project implementation and develop briefings and reports.

  • Participate in coordination meetings with implementing partners and take minutes.

  • Identification of content for dissemination and communication materials.

  • Assist with the monitoring and reporting of projects and partnerships.

  • Support the administrative and logistical processes pertaining to the global projects.

Education



  • Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office).

    • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).

    • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent).

    • Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent.




  • Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.

  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.


Preferred Skills



  • Possess strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Possess strong interests in local governance, local development and local implementation of Agenda 2030and is self-motivated.

  • Be computer literate in standard software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

  • Knowledge of design or web software such as the Adobe creative suite (e.g., Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop) is an asset.

  • Ability to work and deliver outputs independently in a timely manner.


Preferred areas of studies:



  • Public Relations, Social and Political Sciences, International Relations, Urban/Public Policy, Urban Planning or any other related field of study


Work Experience



  • No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

  • Experience in assisting with any projects, even in non-professional settings, that align with the SDGs is required.

  • Knowledge of design or web software such as the Adobe creative suite (e.g., Illustrator, InDesign, and

  • Photoshop) is desirable.

  • Experience in using Microsoft Office software packages is desirable.


Languages



  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
