Job Title: Social Research and Evaluation Lead


Ipsos is a leading provider of Research for Development across Africa, with fully staffed and permanent research offices in 11 countries.


In SSA we provide evidence-based recommendations on program design and implementation at both a strategic and tactical level to a wide range of multi-lateral and bilateral donors, foundations, international and local NGOs.


Ipsos leads the way in application of new methods of information collection and analysis, and on the delivery of high quality data sets and analytical reports, alongside the ability to create impact through integrating recommendations into program design and improvement.


We work across sectors, but particularly focus in MNCH, SRH, trade and markets-systems development (particularly in agriculture and financial access)


JOB PURPOSE


Our development research and evaluation work in Mozambique has been growing strongly and we now have a fantastic opportunity to form and lead a local team to become the most important social research business in Mozambique.


The social research and evaluation lead role involves growing our portfolio in Mozambique through taking an active role in the development community in Mozambique to identify opportunities, helping local organizations by providing robust research and evaluation services, to explore and evaluate complex social problems, and deliver with a laser focus on impeccable results.


This role will suit someone with an entrepreneurial spirit and positive attitude that has the ability to identify, hire, train and grow a team of local experts over time, a good understanding of technical aspects of research and / or evaluation, a high level of integration into the Mozambique development community and absolute ability to manage complex projects from inception through to working with client organizations to action findings.


Whilst this role cuts across sectors, we welcome an individual with relevant research and / or evaluation experience in one of the sectors mentioned above


KEY ACTIVITIES IN YOUR ROLE WILL INCLUDE



  • Provide vision and direction in the development of a country strategy based on a strong understanding of client needs in Mozambique

  • Expand work through engagement with those needing research and evaluation ensuring continued flow of funds to the office

  • Grow the team, train and mentor them in project management, research and evaluation skills, and on how to provide a high level of client service to funding partners

  • Implement research and evaluation projects from start to finish, working with our internal field research and data analytics teams

  • Represent Ipsos to the government, bilateral/multilateral institutions and with NGOs and in local and international meetings and conferences

  • Uphold the Ipsos brand and reputation as a reliable partner in the delivery of research and evaluation and as a key voice in our sectors of focus. Spread the work of Ipsos through publishing of papers, memos and articles

  • Work in a positive and steadfast way with other teams within Ipsos Mozambique, around Africa and globally, pulling out all the stops to ensure project delivery


REQUIREMENTS


Do you meet the required criteria?



  • You have a strong technical understanding of research and evaluation, and are able to design and implement projects

  • You have a minimum 10 years’ experience in a development context, with a strong component of research and / or evaluation at the management level (experience in conducting fieldwork only would not qualify here)

  • You have worked in the development or private sector in Mozambique or in the Africa region

  • You ideally have worked in a business environment providing services to clients

  • You must have experience writing winning proposals

  • You have the ability to manage the development of, and contribute to, the high-level analysis of the underlining factors driving the situation in a range of development sectors

  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills to motivate and influence

  • You are able to organize, mentor, engage and motivate a multicultural team

  • You are ready and willing to integrate into a hardworking and fun team that believes in doing ordinary things extraordinarily well

  • You are disciplined and able to work and arrive at decisions autonomously with minimal guidance, and deliver high standard research reports, data and analysis to strict deadlines

  • You must be able to speak and write English and Portuguese well
