Job Description


Core Responsibilities



  • Collect, process, and handle blood and/or other biological specimens according to established procedures; instructs patients in the proper collection of samples

  • Performs a variety of clinical laboratory tests in the areas of hematology, microbiology, clinical chemistry, and urinalysis, as assigned; conducts quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine and perform blood counts using microscope as outlined on SOPs, Manuals and Policies

  • Perform quality control on test results, ensuring validity and accuracy

  • Performs calibration and troubleshooting on testing systems and instruments to ensure adherence to established standards of accuracy

  • Keep records and reports on results according to established procedures

  • Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods

  • Orientation of new staff

  • Participate in CMEs and quarterly assessment tests

  • Timely and accurate billing of laboratory services

  • Department report submission (weekly and monthly reports)

  • Stock management and monthly submission of stock report with explained variances

  • Review and act on quality indicator reports (IQC, EQA/interlaboratory comparison, TAT, sample rejection)

  • Document CAPA on all non-conformities

  • Follow laid down Lab Board approved rules for medical lab profession and adhere to Government and respective professional standards of care and treatment of patients


JOB REQUIREMENTS


Minimum Qualifications



  • Diploma/ BSC in Medical Laboratory Sciences or related disciplines

  • Valid practicing license from Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board.


Experience



  • 3 +years’ work experience.


Technical skills/Leadership competencies



  • Proficiency in computer application packages

  • Able to use, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment

  • Effective communication both oral and written

  • Attention to details

  • Systematically manage work and workplace

  • Demonstrate leadership and organizational competence

  • Uphold ethics and professionalism

  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.

  • Ability to collect, prepare and process laboratory samples using established protocols


Language Skills



  • English

  • Swahili (Preferred)
