Job Description/Requirements

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing practical legal advice on business issues and strategies and ensuring the company operates in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and mitigating commercial risk.

Key Responsibilities
•    Providing professional legal support, guidance, and advice as required.
•    Managing litigation risks  proactively by conducting employee trainings and sensitisation programs, reviewing relevant company documentation including contracts and processes.
•    Contributing to the business’ anti-illicit trade plans and activities by reviewing them for compliance with the relevant local laws.
•    Suggesting and advising on various legal matters likes contracts, dispute resolution, regulatory, employment, and governance.
•    Ensuring that the company is in compliance with all current business process laws, while Keeping track of new updates in relevant legal provisions and providing timely legal advice.
•    Providing leadership, guiding, mentoring and identifying training opportunities for the development of the employees in the department.
•    Managing the Intellectual Property portfolio by ensuring timely registration or renewal of trademarks and through assisting with the management of any related disputes or litigations..
•    Review and draft contracts, agreements and internal policies and ensure that they are in compliance with all statutory or legal requirements.
•    Managing the insurance section activities and supervising the staff in insurance section.

Key qualifications
•    Bachelor’s Degree in Law and a Postgraduate qualification in Law from a recognised institution.
•    A minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience as an advocate, 5 of which must be in a managerial position.
•    Must be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and Membership of the Law Society of Kenya is preferreed.
•    Understanding of national and international labor, trademark and copyright laws.
•    Must display integrity, ethics, and respect.
•    Excellent Communication (Verbal and in writing), Influencing and negotiation skills
•    Must have excellent decision making, organization and conflict resolution skills
