IG (Invest & Grow) Sacco Society Ltd is a financial institution regulated by Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) as a Deposit Taking Sacco are looking for a suitable and qualified candidate to fill the following vacant position.

Legal Officer

Overall Responsibility: The officer will be responsible for advising on legal compliance and corporate matters of the Sacco, identifying and managing legal risks, supporting the Sacco on all legal and regulatory matters to ensure efficient and proper handling of all legal matters affecting the Sacco.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing legal professional guidance to the Saccos Board, Management & Staff and ensuring compliance with the required standards of good corporate governance and practices.


• In-charge of legal and litigation matters individually or in liaison with Sacco lawyers


• Drafting, reviewing and ensuring proper execution of all contracts, tender documents, lease agreements, licences and all other related legal documents to ensure compliance with the legal obligations.


• Periodic review of requisite legal documents, by-laws, policies, rules and regulations


• Provision of timely information on review and/or termination of contracts


• Effective follow up of all court cases, attend hearings arid follow up on judgements


• Identification, assessment and mitigation of legal and regulatory risks


• implementation of court awards, judgements and resolutions.


• Maintain and update records of all contracts, leases licences and claims


• Drafting board and board committee minutes and following up on matters for action to ensure effective implementation of Board decisions


• Overseeing Sacco elections and by-elections


• Keep track of emerging legislation affecting the Sacco and update the board and management accordingly.


• Support the Sacco in settling disputes using Alternative Dispute Resolution to reduce the number of legal matters proceeding to court.


• Perform any other relevant duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• MUST have a Bachelors Degree in Law from a recognized Institution.


• A post graduate Diploma in Law/Legal studies from the Kenya School of Law.


• Proficiency in MS Office Suite


• A minimum of three (3) years relevant experience in handling legal matters.


• A registered member of Law Society of Kenya and in good standing,


• A registered Certified Public Secretary will be an added advantage.


• Experience in the financial and cooperatives sector will be an added advantage.


• MUST meet the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya.
