Exciting Maintenance Manager (Electrical & Mechanical) Career Opportunity


Our client, a leading Plastics Manufacturing firm, seeks to recruit a dynamic, results oriented energetic and self-driven individual for the Position of Maintenance Manager.


Job title: Maintenance Manager (Electrical & Mechanical)


Department: Maintenance


Reports to: Chief Executive Officer


Salary Range: Kshs 200,000 Gross


Location: Nairobi, Kenya.


Number of Positions: One (1) Position


Placement: Immediate


Overall purpose of the Job: The role holder shall be responsible for ensuring all Production plants are in good working condition at all times and breakdowns are minimized through preventive maintenance schedules.


He/she is also to ensure breakdowns are attended to in the least possible time so as to maximize production.


He /she shall also be responsible for managing all installation, repair and upkeep operations of our company’s facilities.


His/her duties shall include maintaining machinery, planning repair activities and developing maintenance procedures.


Key Role Accountabilities



  • Supervise and lead all maintenance processes and operations & respond to maintenance enquiries as per the target given by the management.

  • Track expenses and oversee the budget for maintenance.

  • Maintain all machinery to ensure it’s at working standards.

  • Ensure that job cards from departments are sorted out within the timelines prescribed by the management & report their execution progress to the management on daily basis.

  • Plan the acquisition, stock & utilization of spare parts as well as stock reports monthly.

  • Create and implement maintenance procedures.

  • Conduct regular inspections of the facilities to detect and resolve problems.

  • Plan and manage all repair and installation activities.

  • Ensure all department workers adhere to the safety policies and procedures.

  • Plan repair & maintenance schedules at the beginning of each month and evaluate repair cost estimates monthly.

  • Document and prepare daily progress reports and maintenance logs.

  • Oversee equipment stock and place orders for new supplies when necessary.

  • Schedule and undertake periodic maintenance on the entire plant & machinery, components and installations to make sure that they are in good working order & also to prevent disruption of activities.

  • Provide prompt response to inquiries whenever there is a breakdown and resolve the issue as quickly as possible

  • Ensure that equipment’s are in good working order so as to prevent disruption of activities

  • Installation of fresh electrical components and fittings

  • Recommend replacement for old or faulty machine & electrical components or fittings to the management

  • Assist in forecasting requirements, creating a budget and scheduling expenses for the maintenance department

  • Keep record of all stock and supplies of the company’s maintenance equipment

  • Work in collaboration with the production team to formulate the best cost-effective manufacturing process

  • Perform energy audit and recommend alternative sources of energy

  • Help the organization to reduce energy & maintenance costs

  • Ensure that all electrical gadgets and instruments are switched off after close of work daily.

  • Fix and maintain lighting fixtures and fittings

  • Troubleshoot machine breakdowns and provide preventive maintenance services

  • Learn new skills and attend training programs in other institutions in order to increase knowledge of trends and best practices in the industry.

  • Provide safe working environment for members of staff and ensure electricity induced accidents and mishaps are prevented.

  • Take steps to prevent fire outbreaks by making appropriate maintenance recommendations to management.

  • Advise & coordinate the purchase of electrical fittings and components.

  • Provide 24 hours a day maintenance services & supervise the technical team that is charged with the responsibility.

  • Supervise electrical works when new projects are undertaken

  • Support the company in increasing profitability by managing resources efficiently and making necessary recommendations.


Person Specification (Qualifications and Skills)



  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical), facility management or similar field is preferred.

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in both Mechanical & Electrical in a plastic manufacturing industry a Must.

  • Experience in Plant Maintenance especially Blow mould machines, Extruder machines, pumps, diesel engines, compressors, refrigeration, gearbox, boilers and power plant auxiliaries

  • Attention to detail, good planning of schedule, knowledge of engineering tools, safety and health awareness & ability to think fast.

  • Previous managerial experience is an added advantage.

  • Strong knowledge of facilities, machines and equipment.

  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
