Our client is a leading Hospital in Meru Town with the aim of providing quality, affordable and all-inclusive inpatient and outpatient treatment services to the satisfaction of their clients in line with best medical practices.


In order to improve their efficiency, expand their business portfolio and enhance service delivery, they are seeking to recruit a dynamic and results driven individual who is passionate about developing their skills and experience to fill the following position to be based in Meru Town:


C.O Ophthalmologist with Training in Cataract Surgery


Role Description: The job holder will be responsible for performing examinations, diagnosis and treatment of eye problems, perform eye surgery and prescribe eye glasses and contact lenses where necessary.


Key result areas/responsibilities



  • assess and examine patients in order to make a diagnosis

  • manage ophthalmic conditions, taking into account both the medical and psychological aspects of patient care

  • manage busy general outpatient hospitals, emergency eye hospitals and specialist hospitals

  • do occasional ward rounds (most ophthalmic patients have day surgery and don’t stay in hospital overnight)

  • work as part of a multidisciplinary team in other hospital departments including but not limited to nurses, as well as other specialists such as neurologists, ENT (ear, nose and throat) surgeons and pediatricians

  • operate equipment such as ophthalmoscopes, slit lamps and lenses

  • provide advice and reassurance to patients and family members

  • educate patients to help them understand their medical condition

  • handle legal documentation for the certification of patients as blind or partially sighted

  • Support health promotion and disease prevention activities.

  • Carry out other relevant duties as may be assigned by management from time to time


Qualifications



  • Higher Diploma in ophthalmology

  • Diploma in Hospital Medicine

  • Valid practicing license

  • Certificate of registration by Medical Practitioners & Dentists Board

  • Valid practicing license from Medical Practitioners & Dentists Board

  • Computer literate

  • At least 2 years experience

  • Certificate in computer Applications from a recognized institution

  • Practical hand skills and good hand-eye coordination

  • Problem-solving and high-level decision-making skills

  • Communication skills, including empathy and sensitivity

  • Has demonstrated professional competence and managerial capability

  • Must be willing to work during odd hours and on weekends/holidays

  • Committed to work as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • The ability to work under pressure with very minimal supervision

  • Organizational, time management and planning skills.
