Job Title: Field Agronomist – Organic Farming

Industry: Manufacturing

Location: Ruiru with travel to Eastern and Coastal areas

Gross Salary: Ksh 45,000 – 50, 000

Our client is a skin-care product manufacturing company based in Ruiru.

They are seeking to hire a Field Agronomist with responsibility of carrying-out various field and related office activities pertaining to the establishment and operation of sustainable commercialization of Baobab Fruit in Eastern and Southern Kenya.

The incumbent will handle training and sensitizing farmer groups in preparation for ECOCERT, FAIRTRADE, FAIRWILD and COSMOS certification; establish and oversee harvesting based on these principles and adherence to Laws of Kenya and IFC performance standards for Environmental and Social Sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement information management system for the necessary certifications mentioned above including relevant policy development


• Training and sensitizing farmer groups in preparation for necessary certifications, sustainable harvest practises and capacity building.


• Liaise and engage with contracted self-help group, farmers, collectors, harvesters on the ground and co-ordinate harvest logistics during harvest season. Enforce strict organic, traceability and quality control at the field level.


• Ensure EHS is developed and implemented across the organisation and at field level.


• Adhere to company policies across the board and hold yourself to the highest ethical standards.


• Work with minimal supervision delivering visible timely results.


• Develop field budgets and provide accountability of expenses.


• Identify risks with harvest, social, ethical and political risks and provide practical solutions within legislative and international performance standard boundaries.


• Engage with local government and organisations in the development and implementation of baobab protection and affiliated biodiversity drives.


• Submit timely reports and prepare presentations/proposals as assigned.


• Assist colleagues whenever necessary.


• Any other field or related office activities pertaining to sustainable business practices in field or office.

Qualification and Requirements

• Minimum of a Diploma or BSc in Natural Resource Management or a related field.


• Proven field experience in farmer mobilisation, training, policy development and implementation.


• Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities


• Excellent organizational, problem solving and leadership skills


• Be able to travel on a regular basis.


• Proficiency in written and verbal English and Kiswahili; Knowledge of Kamba and/or Taita language and cultural practices is desirable.
