Our client is a leading Quality PVC Pipes and fittings manufacturer based in Nairobi.

Job title: Electrical Supervisor

Reports to: Electrical Engineer

Role Overview: The role exists to support operations by ensuring availability, reliability and efficiency of plant, equipment, utilities, building facilities and motor vehicles in terms of all electrical functions for optimum operations within the factory.

Job Accountabilities (Duties and Responsibilities)

• Handling all electrical, electronics and instrumentation functions in the Manufacturing plants/equipment, utilities & facilities including installation, commissioning, operations and maintenance relative to ISO standards.


• Establishing & Optimizing plant operations and process improvement initiatives and activities in terms of electrical and electronics functions;


• Measuring and monitoring effectiveness & efficiency of operational processes and advising on areas of improvement in electrical systems;


• Identifying, Developing, recommending and Executing key electrical maintenance efficiency drivers;- Supports the establishment & optimization of day to day operational activities, including planning, directing and overseeing the electrical maintenance operational policies, rules, Long/short-term strategies/directives, initiatives, programs, maintenance plans, goals, and annual operating budgets for electrical functions by making decisions that influence people, process and technology and ensure continuous achievement of set goals and objectives.


• Developing and executing electrical procedures and processes to support GMP, GPP and the quality management system; Developing electrical systems strategies to enable the Company to grow in process and product with the end goal of Leading and continuously driving a LEAN manufacturing & improvement culture with the vision to exceed customers’ expectations, and to reduce cycle time and quality outcomes within the operations processes;


• Proactive Quality by design approach to all electrical products, services, and premises


• Preventive Systematic avoidance of electrical problems and variability through inspection, maintenance, and controls, at all points in the value chain.


• Reactive Rapid corrective actions focused on identification and rectification of electrical problems root causes, rapidly mobilizing Cross-functional teams to analyse and resolve problems;


• Train/develop, supervise and coordinate a focused and effective electrical team to Work Cross functionally with all departments to coordinate, Coach and implement tools to achieve strategic goals and take responsibility for supporting the business needs: Develop protocols; – cleaning validation studies and reports to thoroughly document all electrical activities.


• Projects/facility management;- Developing & monitoring contract/projects procurement documents & scope of work (i.e. feasibility studies, EIA, written scope of work, architectural & engineering drawings/plans, bill of materials/quantity, cost estimates/budgeting, quality control inspections/tests, tender documents/bids, punch lists, project reports, etc.); Projects/facilities management;- Projects/contract planning, coordination and supervision, from the conceptual development to final stage, Ensures that all electrical maintenance and repair activities are carried out safely and in compliance with the organization’s EHS policies as well as statutory requirements.eg ensures safety induction, job safety analysis, safety method statements, work inspections, etc;


• Ensuring overall equipment efficiency in terms of electrical systems to ensure availability, reliability & efficiency of plant & equipment


• Develop cost saving proposals; – conduct electrical operational costing and efficiency; Monitor usage of utilities and implement electrical improvement initiatives, daily manage and reduce overall electrical maintenance & production cost by monitoring and tracking related expenses, as well as Implementation of quality requirements and regulatory requirements on electrical maintenance & production activities to eliminate negative impact on quality;


• Skill inventory: Development and coordinating effective & efficient electrical team & department by aligning the key electrical functions with the skills, carrying out quarterly performance review; Mentoring, Motivating &


• Communicating technical information, strategy and policy to electrical employee to meet/foster or surpass organizational goals & to support the growth both at the individual and business level ;Coordinates with HR department(to recruit, train and retain electrical talents) ; Prepare Standard Operating Procedures(SOP) for important electrical processes; train the operators to fix abnormalities, restore and keep the machine in basic conditions through knowledge transfer;


• Formulate and establish electrical preventive maintenance master plan for all plant, equipment, utilities and systems;


• Schedule, coordinate and control all electrical maintenance activities, ensure effective planning and execution;


• Improve on the electrical Maintenance procedures and effectiveness of electrical maintenance activities, and hence maintenance cost;


• Design and/or make AutoCAD drawings for all systems as may be required: this includes mechanical, structural, electrical, plumbing and civil drawings and schematic diagrams;


• Project management from initiation to commissioning in terms of electrical systems;


• Handling of all electrical workshop processes including tool room, moulds, dies, precision fitting, machining, etc;


• Handling, coordination, supervision and working with electrical team to produce desired results;


• Handle specialised welding appliances;


• Handling of main power distribution system in terms of installation and maintenance for both High voltage and low voltage. And address the observed electrical risks and hazards;


• Handling all occupational health and safety functions including equipment statutory inspection. And mitigate all the observed health & safety risks and hazards;


• Handling all electrical transmission systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems and heating systems are required;


• Energy management; Reduce Electricity consumption(kwh/FG), improve electrical safety;


• Preparation of electrical budget/estimates and budgetary monitoring and controls;


• Assess electrical maintenance cost for each machine & act accordingly;


• Use of maintenance management software to enhance electrical maintenance functions;


• Reducing Equipment breakdowns and prolong the equipment life span thus improving the overall equipment efficiency and reduce power consumption;


• Setting target /performance objectives for electrical employees & appraisals;


• Monitoring electrical quality of work(maintenance/production) and follow-up;


• Training electrical employees on their tasks & having the right skills;


• Ensuring electrical Maintenance documentation and records;


• Practice equipment routine checks and monitoring to track electrical related anomalies and Monitoring & controlling process parameters accordingly;


• Reduce mould related process challenges and increase mould life span & productivity;


• Address air quality and pollution issues in work-place as a statutory compliance;;


• Ensure ISO compliance, maintain all procedures, documents and QMS compliance;


• Address the water supply /reticulation challenges;


• Ensure timely, efficient and reliable electrical service contractor (including proper supervision and guidance) to avoid undue down time;


• Complete cooperation and mutual understanding between electrical maintenance, other maintenance and production departments (team work);


• Progressive effort to reduce or eliminate electrical breakdowns, progressive outlook of electrical department, employing latest techniques to keep pace with advancement in production/electrical maintenance technology;


• Establish and ensure standard operating procedures and work instructions as far as electrical maintenance and related functions are concerned.

Person Specifications (Qualifications, Skills and Experience)

• A holder of Bachelor of science in electrical engineering or Mechatronic Engineering from a reputable institution;


• Must be conversant with injection moulding, blow moulding and extrusion machines maintenance, repair and overhaul;


• Over 5 years of sound continuous and detailed experience in manufacturing relative to electrical engineering /maintenance functions to ISO/QMS;


• Conversant with Kaizen, Six sigma and lean manufacturing systems;


• Conversant with SAP ERP System;


• Conversant with Project management tools and methodologies;


• Conversant with Air compressors, Emergency power generators, power distribution systems, heating systems, process cooling systems, water supply and treatment systems,
