Applications are invited for the following position:

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER IN SOCIAL SCIENCES (QUANTITATIVE), REACH KENYA PROGRAMME - AD/3/31/22 - (1 POST)

The Project

REACH is an international, collaborative project led by Oxford University (OU), financially supported by FCDO, with Ethiopia, Kenya and Bangladesh as project implementing countries. In Kenya, the University of Nairobi is the national focal research institution, in collaboration with UNICEF and the County Governments of Turkana and Kitui.

Job description
The Postdoctoral Researcher will work within the Social Science stream and be required to:
• Manage and co-ordinate a socio-economic survey on water security inequalities in Turkana through:
o Supporting the deployment of the survey tool in collaboration with a global team of social researchers, including arranging translation and ensuring context specificity;
o Managing data collection which will include hiring and training enumerators;
o Frequent within-country travel to Turkana and Kitui Counties.
• Advance research methodologies, ideas and materials independently and in collaboration with academic colleagues for high-quality research publications and presentations in public forums or academic conferences;
• Participate in workshops, meetings, and events for REACH;
• Engage with REACH’s research impact agenda including participation in the development of stakeholder engagement activities;
• Adhere to the requirements of the Postdoctoral Fellowship Policy of the University of Nairobi.

Job specifications
• PhD degree in social sciences/economics/international development or relevant field;
• Proven experience in quantitative data collection for research using social surveys;
• Awareness of key issues and ideas within the social development agenda in Kenya;
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research results, and represent the research group;
• An established publication record will be an added advantage.

Terms of appointment
This a position whose tenure is one (1) year contract renewable based on performance and by mutual consent. The salary is negotiable depending on the level of education and work experience.
