Job Description

We are looking to work with 3 research assistants who are able to live up to the mission of the business and assist the team in the design and execution of research projects on a casual and part-time basis.


Research assistants collect data on various populations and assist senior research staff to analyse and evaluate this data in line with project objectives. You therefore must be organised, dependable, trustworthy, naturally curious, cerebrally switched on and results-focused.


Previous interviewing experience is a must; you must have prior experience in conducting quantitative or qualitative research interviews, whether in the social or market research fields. Sales, or customer service experience is a bonus.


Should your application be successful, you will, as a research assistant be tasked with:


ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Conducting research on the latest industry trends both locally and globally in order to identify opportunities to serve clients better

  • Conducting research on leading players in various industries and markets for the purposes of benchmarking

  • Conduct literature reviews on concepts and products in various industries and markets for the purposes of benchmarking

  • Prepare articles, proposals, reports and presentations for review by senior research staff

  • Prepare interview questions to enable the creation of questionnaires and discussion guides by senior research staff

  • Participant recruitment. You must have an awareness of Basic Interviewing Techniques. Sapphire will provide training before each project commences. We however expect you to have been in the research arena before and as such, have an easy grasp of what is required and what to expect

  • Develop or assist in the development of project timeline sheets and interview schedules. You will be required to contact potential participants to introduce and explain study objectives and to arrange interviews, either in person or by telephone

  • Identify and compile lists of potential research participants in accordance with study objectives and parameters, as appropriate to the individual position

  • Travel to field sites to collect and record data as appropriate to the specific objectives of the study

  • Participant interviewing. Conduct and record face-to-face and/ or telephone interviews with participants in various settings in accordance with predetermined interview protocol, data collection procedures and documentation standards

  • Follow up with participants to resolve problems or clarify data collected

  • Meet or exceeding data quality targets. Data quality expectations for projects will be outlined in training and throughout the data collection period

  • Data cleaning and analysis. You will be required to review, clean, code and verify data to ensure completeness and accuracy of information. This will be done in accordance with specified research protocol and coding procedures. You will then be required to enter data into a database and/ or spreadsheet application for subsequent analysis

  • Maintain accurate records of interviews, safeguarding the confidentiality of participant information in accordance with Sapphire’s Data Protection Guidelines

  • Compile interview data, summarise interviews and project results

  • Attend project meetings

  • Manage and respond to project related email

  • Prepare project progress reports

  • Monitor project budgets


QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelors degree in Anthropology, Marketing, Psychology, Sociology or Statistics

  • A Certificate or Diploma from the Marketing Research Society is a plus, but not required

  • A Certificate or Diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing is a plus, but not required

  • Uncommon ability to collate, analyse, interpret and present complex information in a clear and concise manner

  • Proficient in business case analysis and research design

  • Advanced writing skills. You must have excellent written, editing and oral communication skills

  • Excellent project design and implementation skills

  • Excellent planning, organising and project execution skills

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills. You must be adept at interacting with all types of demographics

  • Strong presentation skills

  • Proficient in the utilisation of Microsoft Office applications

  • Familiarity with data collection apps such as Device Magic, KoboCollect, Formhub, SurveyToGo etc

  • Adroit at time management

  • High level of integrity

  • Professional appearance

  • Ability to take direction and absorb information quickly

  • Ability to work under limited supervision

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Ability to demonstrate creativity and out-of-the-box thinking when undertaking tasks

  • Capacity for handling pressure while meeting deadlines and delivering on timelines

  • A willingness to go the extra mile
