Vacant Position: Safety and Quality Assurance Engineer

Location: Nairobi

Industry: Manufacturing / Factory

Broad Function: The Safety and Quality Assurance Engineer / Manager leads safety and quality assurance team in ensuring that products meet established quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Providing leadership in the quality assurance section by ensuring effective and efficient utilization of resources


• Coordinating quality control and assurance procedures in manufacturing process


• Preparing and ensuring that quality inspection is carried out at every manufacturing process and only conforming products are allowed to pass through


• Ensuring that production processes are in line with the required quality standards in order to produce quality products, minimize wastes and reworks


• Receiving, documenting and acting fast on customers complaints and putting in place corrective measures to avoid future complains


• Ensuring equipment that monitors/ controls the manufacturing process are calibrated to standards to give accurate results


• Liaise with external inspection and regulatory agencies to witness conformity to standards of our manufacturing process for issuance of certificates for the same


• Participate in meetings/ forums and champion company interests where products standards are discussed and adopted


• Participating in New Product development (NPD) initiatives


• Driving the Quality Management Systems in the organization and ensuring its implementation


• Advising company and factory management on all Quality and related issues


• Managing and developing safety and quality assurance staff

Health, Safety and Environment:

• Ensuring and enforcing implementation of statutory and company safety standards in the organization


• Review plans and specifications for new machinery and equipment to make sure they meet safety requirements


• Enforce safety procedures at workplace by ensuring staff use appropriate PPE


• Identify and correct potential hazards by inspecting facilities, machinery and safety equipment


• Evaluate the effectiveness of various industrial control mechanisms


• Ensure that facilities and products comply with health and safety regulations, especially after an inspection that requires changes


• Install safety devices on machinery or direct the installation of these devices


• Review employee safety programs and recommend improvements


• Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations and industrial processes


• Investigate industrial incidents, accidents, injuries or occupational diseases to determine their causes, carry out cause analysis and suggest/ take mitigative steps to prevent future recurrent


• Take charge of company fire fighting equipment to ensure they are in good working condition


• Liaise with external consultants to ensure statutory inspections and certifications are carried out


• Any other duties that may be assigned by management from time to time

Academic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from a recognized university or its equivalent


• Qualification in Industrial / occupational Health and ISO Quality Management Systems are added advantages

Experience

• At least 5 years experience in Quality assurance, two of which must be in a senior position of a busy Manufacturing company

Skills:

• Technical knowledge of materials forming technology( deep drawing, welding) heat treatment


• Knowledge of quality management systems and occupational Safety and Health procedures


• Technical knowledge of production machinery


• Good defect troubleshooting and analytical skills


• Good interpersonal and people management skills


• Computer literacy and familiarity with standard office computer applications
