Position: School Principal


Reports to: Director


Job Description


The job holder will be responsible for ensuring the school offers a curriculum in accordance to the Ministry of Education, high performance is achieved and maintained in the school. He or she will also ensure effective management of the School as a profit centre and achieve business objectives.


Responsibilities


Organisation and Management of Approved School Curriculum



  • Giving directions to the school to offer a suitable approved and diversified curriculum in accordance to guidelines from the Ministry of Education.

  • Ensure teachers prepare Schemes of Work, Lesson Plans, Lesson Notes and develop appropriate instructional materials.

  • Check periodically pupils’ exercise books, assignments and continuous assessment scripts to ensure regular marking and systematic use of guided learning.

  • Visit, observe and keep record of learning sessions in classrooms and advice teachers accordingly.

  • Convene and conduct regular informative staff, parents and pupils meetings

  • Ensure students are adequately prepared, registered and presented for school-based continuous assessment and for the national examinations in accordance to the Examination Council Regulation and Syllabuses.

  • Submit monthly, term and annual reports on academic performance to the Directors


 Management and control of school finances and stores



  • Oversee debt collection for school to ensure maximum collection of school fees

  • Initiate revenue generation opportunities for the school to grow the business and revenues on an annual basis

  • Effectively manage stocks and oversee proper utilization of items and stocks from the stores

  • Ensure financial prudence and efficiency is attained in the daily operations to achieve the least levels of wastage and increase savings.


 Management and motivation of human resource in the school



  • Delegate duties and responsibilities to deputy head teacher, head of departments, senior teachers and teachers.

  • Welcome and induct new teachers to the school.

  • Supervise, appraise and prepare appraisal reports of teachers

  • Ensure self discipline is cultivated, nurtured and maintained amongst staff and pupils in the school.

  • Create an environment for staff training and development, that is, orientation, induction, internship, transfers in assignments and coaching sessions.

  • Motivate staff and pupils to excel through participation in seminars, workshops, conferences, staff clinics, community based social and cultural activities, student peer support self management.


Management and maintenance of the school assets



  • Plan and prepare an incremental maintenance manual for all physical facilities, equipment and materials including textbooks in the school premises.

  • Ensure safety, security, cleanliness of the school.



  • Ensure effective management of all vehicles owned by the School to achieve profits and minimize costs

  • Overall management of the administration departments that support core business and ensure all are profit centres. (Kitchen, transport, School magazines)

  • Initiate and nurture income generating programmes, projects and activities to boost school revenue.


Qualifications 



  • Must be a P1 teacher and with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education/A post-graduate degree in Education from an accredited university and Teacher Service Commission registration

  • Must have at least 10 years’ experience in heading a reputable school with exemplary performance track record

  • Good understanding of and experience in curriculum management, design, implementation and evaluation of both 8-4-4 and CBC curriculums

  • Understanding of 21st century education practices, strategies for raising students’ achievement, managing discipline and effective frameworks for school improvement planning and self-evaluation

  • Must be computer literate with high proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint office applications.
