Job Summary


Cornerstone Preparatory Academy is a private primary school located at Hillstop, at the base of Mt. Longonot along the Trans African Highway. We are currently seeking for a highly motivated and qualified professional to fill the role of a School Social Worker.

Job Description



The School Social Worker will help to direct the social work program activities for our pupils and their parents/guardians. Suitable and qualified individuals should drop hard copy applications at Cornerstone Gate OR send CV and Cover letter detailing suitability for the job and salary expectation to the director before or on 27TH March, 2019. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.


The School Social Worker will help to direct the Social Work program for our pupils and their parents/guardians. Reporting to the director, the Social Worker at Cornerstone will be charged with delivering on, among others, the following roles and responsibilities: 



  1. Participate in Education assessment meetings as well as individual Educational Planning Meetings.

  2. Work to solve with those problems in a child's living situation that affect the child’s adjustment in school. (home, school, and community).

  3. Prepare a social or developmental history of children/kids admitted at Cornerstone.

  4. Offering Counseling services to children and their parents/guardians (group, individual and/or family)

  5. Mobilizing family, school, and community resources to enable the child to learn as effectively as possible in his or her educational program.

  6. Assist in developing positive behavioral intervention strategies.

  7. Serve on student support teams and special education committees at the school for children/pupils. 

  8. Review student records to identify previous barriers and/or interventions needed.

  9. Conduct parent interviews to acquire socio-developmental information as needed for special education referrals.

  10. Analyzing information gained through record reviews and interviews to determine environmental impacts and appropriate resource needs; integrate gained information into a written report and oral presentation. 

  11. Will make both scheduled and unscheduled visits to the homes of potential children to review individual circumstances and report findings in writing.

  12. Interview pupils and parents to discuss issues related to non-attendance and develop a plan of action. 

  13. Provide staff and co-workers with training on topics that affect children/pupils and those working with them.  (i.e. child development, grief and loss issues, healthy attachments and relationships, crisis management, and problem solving with children and adolescents).

  14. Attend staff meetings give reports and carry out any interventions assigned or proposed. 

  15. Develop and implementing professional development training for educational staff and parents as requested.

  16. Conduct home visits as a method to assess the family and conduct interviews in response to school referrals.

  17. Collaborate with the School Nurse and Chaplain to develop and implement co-curricular activities and programs that will build capacity of parents/guardians in supporting their children’s progress in education. 

  18. Plan and conduct training sessions for parents of prospective and current pupils at the school

  19. Develop reports on social work aspects and submit to the management as required.

  20. Provide support in developing work plans as well as monitoring and evaluation schedules for social work and other programs in the school.

  21. Assist in budgeting for the activities within the social work program.

  22. Accomplish any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.


Qualifications



  • Must be a holder of Bachelor’s Degree in social work OR Higher National Diploma in Social Work from a recognized institution.

  • 4-5 years of experience in social work or community development.

  • Good reporting skills.

  • Coordinating skills; able to plan, set priorities and follow ups.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Excellent presentation skills

  • Be computer literate (Ms Word, Ms Excel, Ms Power point, Internet).

  • Should be self-motivated.

  • Time-conscious and keen to detail.
