SOS Children’s Villages Kenya is an affiliate of SOS CV- International whose mission is to build families for children in need, help them shape their own futures and share in the development of their communities.
In Kenya, the organisation runs five Children’s Villages in Nairobi, Mombasa, Eldoret, Meru and Kisumu.
SOS Children’s Villages Kenya also runs education and health institutions and works with local communities through Families Strengthening Programs.
We seek to recruit a suitably qualified person to become Nutritionist for SOS CV KE Family Strengthening Program based in Nairobi.
Key Functions of the Job
The nutritionist will undertake various duties which include and are not limited to the following:-
- Design and implement the nutrition component of EcoSec assessments.
- Understand the causes of malnutrition and use this knowledge in programming and sensitization strategy.
- Evaluate/monitor the nutrition situation, alert when required and participate in the immediate response to critical situations.
- Provide recommendations to orient the SOS program’s policy, strategy and targeting with regards to nutrition.
- Include nutrition considerations in economic security programs by facilitating, designing and implementing strategies to improve the nutritional status of household members.
- Prevent and treat acute malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies.
- Evaluate the impact of nutrition/economic security interventions, and changes in population environment/livelihoods, and to adapt the programs accordingly.
- Review and adapt nutrition inputs/interventions in emergency and recovery responses
- Participate in internal/external workshops and seminars, and nutrition-related forums
The ideal candidate should be able to:

- To provide recommendations to orient the SOS programme’s policy, strategy and targeting with regards to nutrition.

- To prevent and treat acute malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies.
- To evaluate the impact of nutrition/economic security interventions, and changes in population environment/livelihoods, and to adapt the programmes accordingly.
- To review and adapt nutrition inputs/interventions in emergency and recovery responses.
- To represent the SOS at nutrition-related forums
Required Qualifications / Abilities
- Degree in Nutrition & Dietics.
- Must be computer literate.
- Must be registered and licenced by Kenya Nutritionist and Dieticians Insitute
- At least 2 years’ experience in active nutrition and dietics..
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Good organizational, managerial, planning, reporting skills and counselling skills.
- A good understanding of issues facing orphans & vulnerable children.
