Job Vacancy: Study Clinical Officer

Objective of this Position: To provide routine patient care and conduct research visits for an observational cohort study of mothers and infants in Nairobi, Kenya.

Position Details

Work schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week), Monday through Friday.

Location: Position will be based at the study office in Nairobi, Kenya, with visits to the clinic (Dandora 1 and 2 Health Centre) and laboratory as needed.

Contract Duration: One year contract.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

• Discuss study procedures and conduct screening of facility clients to assess interest in and eligibility for participation in the research study.


• Obtain written and/or verbal consent for research procedures and document the consent process as needed.


• Coordinate and conduct standard patient care for mothers and children in the context of antenatal and postnatal care visits. Patient care responsibilities may also include visits for illnesses that arise during study participation as needed.


• Conduct patient interviews and physical examination to collect personal and medical information from mothers and their infants.


• Conduct phlebotomy to obtain blood samples, and manage the collected samples per study protocols


• Record data in a research data collection instruments, either paper or electronic database using tablets; communicate with data manager to transfer records and maintain devices and paper records in a secure manner.


• Coordinate with the clinic team to schedule participant visits and obtain research supplies.


• Attend meetings with the clinic manager and/or study coordinator to discuss patient care and research activities.


• Prepare regular electronic reports on study progress.


• Ensure the privacy and confidentiality of study participants and their data.


• Provide support for non-research activities at the facility, including but not limited to assisting with immunization and MCH visits.


• Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Desired Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Diploma in Clinical Medicine


• Registered with a valid practicing license as a registered clinical officer.


• Computer literacy and familiarity with data entry using ODK or Redcap software.

Skills

• Experience working in research studies collecting data is desirable.


• Experience in clinical evaluation of children and conducting phlebotomy in young children and in handling of research specimens will be an added advantage.
