Survivor Services Attorney


IJM is seeking a passionate individual who will identify gaps in public justice system concerning provision of psychosocial services to survivors of police abuse of power.


He/she will be a key liaison with government agencies and civil society partners providing psychosocial support to victims and witnesses of police abuse of power.


Some of the key responsibilities and outcomes include:


1. Engage key stakeholders to create awareness about the legislative gaps regarding psychosocial services;


2. Audit the criminal justice system to identify available legal provisions for Survivors & Witnesses and how these are implemented to ensure enforcements of these legal provisions;


3. Develop a legal framework informed from best practices from international, regional and local jurisdictions that address the needs for psychosocial services for survivors and witnesses;


4. Mobilize & develop training material for partners and stakeholders around mainstreaming Psychosocial services for survivors and witnesses of police abuse of power and by extension other injustices;


5. Provide training for IJM partners and survivors in the survivor network on basic legal aspects that can empower them to be advocates of change within their communities;


6. Lead in advocacy for survivors and witnesses to file complaints against the police and follow up through case completion by various strategies including sharing relevant legal information.


Education & Experience



  • Degree in law and an Advocate of the High Court with two years post admission experience;

  • Minimum 5 years’ professional experience in non-profit sector and/or working with victims of crime;

  • Advanced computer skill set with proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.

  • Ability to work well under stress and deadline pressures

  • Strong oral, networking and written communications skills

  • Result-oriented and self-motivated

  • Mature orthodox Christian faith as defined by the Apostles Creed

IJM offers a Competitive salary and benefits package.


The positions are permanent and based in Nairobi.


Occasional travel (both national and international) will be required.
