Job Description

TechnoServe Proposal Writers Jobs vacancy in Kenya 2019

career Employment Proposal Writers Nairobi Kenya Feb 2019

Proposal Writers, East Africa

TechnoServe works with enterprising people in the developing world to build competitive farms, businesses and industries. We are a nonprofit organization that develops business solutions to poverty by linking people to information, capital and markets.

Our work is rooted in the idea that given the opportunity, hardworking men and women in even the poorest places can generate income, jobs and wealth for their families and communities. With five decades of proven results, we believe in the power of private enterprise to transform lives.

We are seeking to expand our pool of short-term proposal writer consultants for the East Africa division with expertise in the preparation of concept notes and proposals to donors, including bilateral and multilateral funders, foundations and private sector clients.

We are particularly interested in identifying experienced concept and proposal writers who have recently worked or currently work in the East Africa region (Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda).

They will:

  • Support the development of concepts and proposals by serving as lead writer.

  • Create proposal outlines and, for competitive proposals, compliance matrices/checklists.

  • Interview subject matter experts, conduct research, and facilitate team discussions on technical design to inform content development.

  • Participate in bid team, partner and stakeholder meetings as necessary.

  • Provide strategic advice on overall proposal strategy based on proposal development experience.

They will have:

  • A proven track record of success writing successful, competitive, high-value proposals to institutional funders, including bilateral and multilateral donors, foundations, and/or private sector clients.

  • The ability to analyze large quantities of information from multiple sources and synthesize it to convey complex ideas clearly and concisely.

  • At least 6 years of international development experience; experience in agricultural value chains, entrepreneurship, and/or private sector development in Africa strongly preferred.

  • Excellent technical writing and editing skills required. Ability to design draft graphics preferred (applicants need not be skilled in graphic design or graphic software, but have the ability to sketch or develop graphics that clearly convey complex ideas in standard software, such as PowerPoint).

  • The ability to handle multiple assignments in deadline-driven environment, strong attention to detail, and the flexibility to adjust to changing circumstances.
Fluency in English, both spoken and in professional writing.

  • Excellent cross-cultural communication skills.

  • Experience living and working in the East Africa region (Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda) (highly desirable).

  • Experience serving as a Proposal Manager/Lead or contributing to cost proposals is preferred, but not required.

  • Experience in project design and value chain analysis would be helpful and is preferred, but not required. The ability to weave technical input from staff into a cohesive narrative is more important.
