WASH Technical Officer

Objective




  • To assist in the implementation of WASH projects Through provision of technical expertise and supervision in the respective project areas.2. Duties and responsibilities

  • Assisting the Head of Project in the implementation of the construction of water structures and developing Bill of Quantities (BoQs) and designs for various water structures.

  • Ensuring that work qualities and work norms are maintained in all constructions that are built during the project implementation.

  • Organizing and managing trained artisans and community project attendants and ensuring that knowledge about work norms is adhered to,

  • Monitoring all construction sites in close coordination with the Head of Project,

  • Negotiating and managing contracts for surveys, artisans and other contractors when required and monitoring the implementation of these contracts efficiently in close cooperation with Financial Administrator,

  • Working in close cooperation with the Logistics Officer to ensure smooth and efficient flow of materials to all work sites and ensuring that no materials shortages occur,

  • Advising the Filed Officers on technical terms and technical matters when needed Steering development of required forms and formats for M&E and for documentation with the team,

  • Steering and participating in organization and mobilization of the community for collection of local materials for the selected water structures,

  • Organizing and supporting communities and community groups through trainings in essentials and relevant topics of M&O and O&M,

  • Supporting the Head of Project and the team in development of plan of operation and work according to the plans,

  • Reporting to the Head of Project progress of all water structures under construction at the agreed reporting deadlines,



Specific skills



Skills in AutoCAD application and design



Persons’ specifications (qualifications required, education and work experience)




  • HND or Degree in Water Engineering

  • At least 3 years of experience in supervision of water structure construction works



Required skills:




  • Must have worked in community-based construction

  • Must have experience in construction of WASH related facilities especially Latrines and Masonry water storage tanks

  • Be able to read and interpret building designs

  • Knowledge of local language is a must (For those interested to work in Kajiado)

  • Be conversant with procurement procedures

  • Be computer literate in word, excel etc.

  • Be knowledgeable in community approaches

  • Have knowledge of basic education and health standards in schools

  • Have experience in community trainings



Field Officer (WASH)

Objective



To assist in the implementation of WASH projects including trainings for the county and beneficiary groups in the respective project areas



Duties and responsibilities




  • Facilitating and carrying out community hygiene and sanitation trainings ensuring enough relevance to community health,

  • Regularly monitoring the execution of project related activities and results, providing feedback to the Head of Project,

  • Compiling and documenting relevant documents for collaborative activities and missions,

  • Designing and documenting meetings, workshops, seminars and other events related to the project field activities,

  • Contributing towards projects strategic development,

  • Conducting trainings to the communities as per the topics outlined in the proposal and developing the training manual when required,

  • Keeping informed about topics and developments of related to the projects through evaluation of press, direct dialog, forum participation seminars e.t.c

  • Formulating project action plans and synchronize between the planning and budgeting systems,

  • Developing and maintaining contacts with all relevant stake holders,

  • Representing the project and corporate with government institutions, non-governmental organizations and the local community in relevant platforms as and when required,

  • Reporting all security relevant issues and information to the Project Security Focal Person (PSFP) and the Head of Project.



Persons’ specifications (qualifications required, education and work experience)




  • HND or Degree in Community Health or in any other related field

  • At least 3 years of work experience in community-based projects



Required skills:




  • At least Knowledge of one local language is a must (Makueni/Kajiado)

  • Have experience in community trainings.

  • Have experience in community mobilization.

  • Oral and written proficiency in English

  • Relationship-building and networking skills

  • Ability to work flexibly, on own initiative and as part of a team
