Job Vacancy: Assistant Project Officer

Duty Station: Loita in Narok

Project Summary: World Concern Kenya is implementing long term development projects in Narok County which are designed to build on the assets, talents, skills and natural resources already available in the target villages.

The aim of the project is to see the communities being able to: develop their own development goals; bring together their resources, experiences, skills and expertise to realize the goals they have set; and put into practice behaviours that promote physical, mental, spiritual and social health.

Project activities include, but are not limited to: empowerment of church to carry out its holistic mandate, crop and livestock production, promotion of savings led microfinance, community leadership empowerment, WASH, promotion of conservation agriculture and animal production.

Purpose: The main objective if this position is to ensure that the World Concern One Village Transformed Project is appropriately and effectively implemented in the Loita Cluster by actively engaging Community members to take charge of their own development and realize their God-given potential. -This position is based in Morijo, Loita with frequent travel to project focus villages.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Rally the community members own their development process by facilitating them to participate in all phases of the project circle


• Write and submit periodic quality reports on time.


• Provide project and operational support, including monitoring and reporting on project plans, milestones and deliverables, to ensure time, cost and quality indicators are in line with approved project plans.


• Participate in the development of project concept notes and proposals.


• Play a facilitative role in organizing community dialogue meetings.


• Establish and enhance – relationships with the communities – and other stakeholders in Loita division, Narok.


• Identify linkages and areas of collaboration and synergy with other organizations implementing Livelihood, WASH, church and other related activities in the project area.


• Actively promote the WC approach to development with emphasis on promoting holistic community development through support, coaching, mentoring and feedback.


• Identify opportunities and innovative approaches to support livelihood activities in the region.


• Facilitate individuals and groups within the community to discover their strengths and develop their visions and strategic plans.


• Encourage the involvement of the community members in the prioritization and contribution towards the selected project activities.


• Prepare work schedules in order to achieve objectives, maintain appropriate documentation and prepare monthly activity and achievement reports.


• Perform any other functions deemed necessary or as delegated by the supervisor

Person Specification

• A Bachelor degree in Community development, Development Studies or any other related fields.


• Committed to serving Jesus Christ and exhibits spiritual maturity, integrity and a dynamic personal sense of life calling


• Excellent computer literacy with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook, PowerPoint and/or Access.


• Able to work with little supervision, focused, well organized, detail oriented


• Able to prioritize work, multi-task and meet deadlines;


• Strong interpersonal skills and flexibility, responsibility, integrity, team work, and self-motivated,


• A minimum working experience of 3 years in an NGO, CBO or FBO setting in a similar position.


• Experience in participatory development approaches is preferred


• Fluent in English both written and oral with experience in training using participatory adult learning methodologies.


• Fluent and able to communicate effectively in the Maa language.


• An Enthusiastic and proactive individual passionate about serving the vulnerable


• Good interpersonal skills and cross-cultural sensitivity.


• Clear understanding of Community based saving and loaning groups model, Disaster risk reduction (DRR), agriculture/livelihoods and Water and Sanitation (WASH) programming.


• Excellent written communication skills, including ability to write and edit technical components of project reports and related communication materials.


• Ability to advise and mentor a diverse team of field practitioners and partners.


• Proven experience in project design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, technical quality assurance and report writing.


• Proven experience in community development work with a thorough understanding of sustainable community development.


• Some experience with proposal writing is highly desirable.


• Willingness ride a motorbike.
