The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking to recruit a dynamic and experienced Research Assistant to provide support to the USAID Potato Breeding Kenya project.
The Position: The Research Assistant will assist in supporting CIP breeding activities in Kenya and will report directly to the SSA Potato Breeder Scientist.
Key responsibilities:
- Support to the breeding activities (in the field and greenhouse) and the potato tissue culture lab in Kenya.
- Lead the tuber seeds multiplication of advanced clones and breeding populations.
- Support on planning, establishment and monitoring of field experiments with local partners.
- Data collection following CIP guidelines.
- Any other duty as will be assigned by the supervisor.
Selection Criteria
- BSc. in Agriculture, Statistics, Agronomy, Biology or a related field, from a recognized University.
- At least three years’ experience required in a similar position.
- Knowledge in potato and greenhouse production and establishment of field trails. Tissue Culture lab experience is a plus.
- Advanced level of MS Office.
- Field and laboratory equipment managing.
- Fluent in Kiswahili.
- Advanced written and oral communication skills in English.
- Strong team player, self-motivated, goal-oriented and committed to shared goal.
What are the conditions?
The position is Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position limited to Kenya nationals and permanent residents only. The employment contract will be for a one (1) year with a 3-month probation period.
