Job Description
The position
Based in Mombasa, the driver will support the delivery of a high-quality programmes across the Coast Region. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing professional driving, transportation and other logistical support across the region. Key responsibilities will include:
Duties and Responsibilities
- To ensure that all vehicle trips are duly authorized, recorded in the vehicle logbook provided and signed for by the supervisor:
- Fully responsible for the official driving of the allocated vehicle/s in the assigned areas of operations.
- To ensure that the vehicle does not carry unauthorized persons without prior consent from the supervisor and/or the management team.
- To ensure that the vehicle has adequate fuel, is clean and well maintained at all times.
- To ensure that the vehicle tool kit is at all times in the vehicle with all the necessary tools intact.
- To coordinate schedule service of the office vehicle with the procurement and administration team.
- Provide logistical support to facilitate field activities across the areas designated.
- Always drive carefully and ensure safety of passenger/s, other road users and the assigned vehicle.
- Report any incident that involves injury, damage to any passenger, pedestrian or third-party immediately.
- Identify vehicle problems and malfunctions, including, performing routine and non- routine check-up and maintenance.
- Maintain and ensure assigned vehicle(s) are always in a neat, clean and good mechanical condition.
- Keep accurate systematic log of journeys made, distances covered and odometer readings in respect of vehicle service and fuel refills.
- Monitor and report expiration and renewal dates of licenses, insurance covers, road rescue registrations and other applicable services, to ensure timely renewal.
- Safely and efficiently operate company vehicles to transport goods and staff to designated locations.
- Coordinate and optimize driving routes for maximum efficiency.
- Maintain vehicles in top-notch condition through regular inspections and upkeep.
- Communicate effectively with team members and staff to ensure smooth logistics operations.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
The requirements
Qualifications and skills:
- KCSE Certificate
- At least 10 years prior experience in providing organizational and/or executive transportation/driving.
- Valid Driver’s License and Certificate of Good Conduct.
- Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and traffic patterns, especially in Kenya.
- Prior training in defensive driving principles is desired.
- Prior work experience with an NGO will be an added advantage
- Sufficient written and spoken English
- Experience of working in multi-cultural and diverse teams including experience of working in marginalized communities.
- Evidence of an understanding of and commitment to child protection and safeguarding as well as other vulnerable populations.
