Job Vacancy: Head of Finance

Reporting to: Directors

Job Location: Nairobi

Description: The main role of the Head of Finance is to be responsible for financial planning and record-keeping, as well as financial reporting to higher management.

Responsibilities

Financial Management and accounting

• Monitor all Tally postings by the stake holders i.e. the procurement team, and the accounts team and give a weekly report on log of problems.


• Supervise daily bank, M-pesa and petty cash postings and manage their reconciliations.


• Check the payment Vouchers and Invoices before presentation for approval


• Provide monthly creditor reports and reconciliations.


• Ensure all debtor statements are up to date and dispatched to customers in a timely manner and follow up on and maintain expected payment dates.


• Ascertain that payment vouchers, invoices and bank/cash receipts are properly filed for referencing and oversee the archiving process for Audited Financial years.


• Support preparation of financial reports, annual audits and tax audits


• Coordinate the preparation of external audit materials and external financial reporting.

Inventory Management and costing

• Support the reconciliation of inventory against system and physical count.


• Support in the set-up of controls within the inventory department.


• Collecting and maintaining financial data/ records.


• Analyzing and determining the cash flow.


• Outline cost variables.


• Prepare month-end and financial year closing.


• Investigate current market trends and frame financial policies.


• Ensure timely collection of payments and track payment reminders.


• Check invoices and reports for accuracy.


• Review and manage the company’s inventory cash flow.


• Tally financial statements.


• Calculate taxes payable.


• Suggest cost-cutting strategies to increase profitability.


• Maintain confidentiality about financial data.

Budget and Management Reporting

• Monitoring Monthly Revenues and Expenses against Targets/ Budgets and the Annual Operating Plan,


• Assist in preparation of management reports and actual against the budget as required.


• Prepare Monthly Expense Schedules of Budgets against actuals.

Compliance

• Ensuring that the VAT is filled promptly.


• Ensure that the Inconsistencies from VAT are amended before the time frame given by KRA.


• Ascertain that the Budget limits on expenditures are not exceeded, and raise a red flag to the Directors.

External Audit function

• Assist in External audit activities within the organization.


• Oversee the implementation of accounting controls in the organization as recommended in consultation with the Senior management.

Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/ Business/ Finance or equivalent is mandatory.


• Candidates must possess CIMA/ CPA(K)/ACCA qualification or equivalent.


• Advanced working knowledge of an accounting system.


• + 5 years relevant experience


• Prior Financial Accounting and/or internal control framework experience is a plus


• Knowledge of General Accounting Principles


• Knowledge of Internal Financial Reporting Standards
