Job Description


Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.


Under the direct supervision of the Human Settlements Officer, SDG Localization and Local government, UPB, the intern will:



  • Support the engagement of UN-Habitat's SDG Localization Team in major events by preparing events' background material, including concept notes and agendas.

  • Assist with the identification of speakers, coordination of invitations and mobilization of partners and participants in sessions, workshops, and other events.

  • Revise knowledge products, key messages, and corporate material, facilitate alignment with the team’s narrative on SDG Localization.

  • Facilitate UN-Habitat's senior management participation in event and advocacy processes.

  • Collaborate with team members to develop and maintain the communication and social media strategy to promote the work of the SDG Localization and Local Governments team.

  • Assist with the creation and dissemination of content and materials to promote events, projects, and other activities (social media posts, infographics, multi-media assets, emails, reports, letters, flyers, messaging) under the work of the work of the SDG Localization and Local Governments team.

  • Website maintenance and updates of the UN-Habitat SDG localization (https://sdglocalization.org/), UN-Habitat Voluntary Local Reviews (https://unhabitat.org/topics/voluntary-local-reviews), and Multilevel Governance websites (https://www.multilevelgovernance.org/).

  • Facilitate internal communication and maintain regular relations with UN-Habitat’s Communication and Information Technology teams. Keep up to date on new social media tools and identify new communications strategies.

Education



  • Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office).

    • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).

    • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent).

    • Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent.




  • Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.

  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.


Preferred skills:



  • Possess strong writing skills and experience with speeches, reports, concept notes, social media messaging and other written outreach materials.

  • Possess graphic design and visual materials development skills; experience with graphic design software and with video design software (Adobe Premiere Pro) is an asset.

  • Poses knowledge on website development and maintenance (Web flow, Drupal) is an asset.

  • Possess strong interests in local governance, local development and local implementation of Agenda 2030 and is self-motivated.

  • Be computer literate in standard software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

  • Knowledge of design or web software such as the Adobe creative suite (e.g., Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop) is an asset.

  • Ability to work and deliver outputs independently in a timely manner, with minimal supervision.


Preferred areas of studies:



  • Journalism, Communication, Graphic Design, Public Relations, Social and Political Sciences, International Relations, Urban/Public Policy or any other related field of study.


Work Experience



  • No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

  • Possession of strong writing skills and experience with speeches, reports, concept notes, social media messaging and other written outreach materials is required.

  • Knowledge of design or web software such as the Adobe creative suite (e.g., Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop) is desirable.

  • Experience in creating outreach and public-facing content as well as utilizing the necessary applications is desirable.


Languages



  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
