Background Information:
The Cervical Cancer Screening and Prevention Study (CCSP) is a collaboration between the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) and Duke University. The CCSP study conducts various clinical, behavioral and implementation studies to provide evidence-based information in women’s health care. The study is currently looking for mature, motivated individuals to fill in the following positions:
2. Position: Laboratory Technologist (1 Position) KMR 7 Vacancy No. FN-005-02-2022
Reports to: Study Coordinator
Location: Kisumu
Duration: 1 Year
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Ensure smooth workflow and timely, accurate testing information
• Diagnose laboratory instrument malfunctions, and ensure preventive and corrective maintenance/ repairs and maintain records of actions
• Develop and adhere to quality control and quality assurance procedures with appropriate and accurate documentation
• Perform laboratory procedures for specimen handling, storage processing and testing for HPV in accordance with standards set forth in the approved Laboratory procedures manual
• Organizing and storing samples in accordance with all safety and other requirements to ensure the safety of personnel and integrity of the sample
• Cleaning and maintaining lab equipment, including recalibration of equipment
• Submit all documentation for supervisory review in a timely manner
• Report and maintain records of patient test results according to protocol
• Ensure that adequate supply levels are maintained in a cost effective manner
• Promptly recognize and resolve issues relating to laboratory services and when appropriate bring the problems/ issues to the attention of the study coordinator
• Adhere to laboratory safety and infection control practices
• Maintain confidentiality of patient/ medical information
• Perform other duties as directed by the study coordinator or study Investigator(s)
Required Qualifications and Experiences
• A Minimum of Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field
• Registration with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technologist Board
• Experience in performing ELISA technology
• Experience in research
Other Required Skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Data collection and entry experience using REDCap (and/or ODK) (preferred)
• Strong communication skills
• Fluency in English, Kiswahili and Luo required
• Must be keen and attentive to details and have the ability to follow instructions and
• procedures carefully.
Other Required Skills
• Comfortable with Microsoft Word and Excel; data entry experience preferred
• Understanding of electronic and computerized equipment
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Must be keen and attentive to details, have the ability to follow procedures carefully and good organizational skills
• Fluent in English
• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Must be willing to work long hours to meet deadlines
