Anjarwalla & Khanna (A&K) is the largest corporate law firm in Eastern Africa, with over 90 lawyers, and is generally considered the leading full-service corporate law firm in Kenya. The firm has offices in both Nairobi and Mombasa, Kenya’s main commercial centres. A&K has also established an office in Dubai. Anjarwalla Collins Haidermota (AC&H), a legal consultancy firm that provides corporate and commercial legal services, is the first African firm to be licensed in the UAE. Through AC&H, we are able to seamlessly service clients based in the Middle East on their transactions in Africa.

We are looking to recruit a high calibre Principal Associate to join our Banking and Finance practice. This individual should possess excellent knowledge of financial services.

The responsibilities will include:

• Working on a wide variety of banking and finance transactions including collateralisation and ancillary procedures.


• Reviewing, drafting and negotiating a variety of agreements and documents relating to banking and finance.


• Providing legal and technical advice including issuing legal opinions.


• Preparing legal briefs and client alerts and undertaking legislative review of banking and finance laws.


• Supervising junior colleagues in the department.


• Liaising and coordinating with transaction teams in other departments in the firm as required.


• Interacting with clients to build good networks and relationships.


• Ensure timely billing and collection of fees.


• Participating in departmental trainings including conducting trainings.


• Participating in business development.

Preferred experience and personal qualities:

• Law Degree and an advocate of the High Court of Kenya.


• At least four (4) years’ experience in a fast-paced banking and finance legal environment.


• Ability to consult widely with Senior lawyers and Partners on areas that need further guidance.


• Ability to organise, prioritise and communicate progress to Senior lawyers and Partners and manage expectations on timelines for delivery.


• Ability to produce good first drafts of documents with minimal corrections from Senior lawyers and Partners.


• Ability to run with matters with minimal supervision from Senior lawyers and Partners.


• Actively work towards gaining a general understanding of the different legal areas.


• Effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build long standing relationships.


• Proficient in the use of IT Systems including Microsoft Office packages.


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to communicate clearly with a range of people from diverse backgrounds.

The role will be based in Nairobi, Kenya, with potential travel within and outside East Africa
