Job Vacancy: Procurement Officer

Our client is a leading Oil & Gas company in the African region, they are seeking to have on board a competent Procurement Officer to support their expansion strategy and maintain efficient and effective services for their clients.

The job incumbent is expected to source and evaluate suppliers, products, and services, as well as negotiate contracts to ensure that approved purchases are cost efficient and of high quality as per the procurement SOP, compliant with procurement procedures and overall Management reports.

Reports to: Procurement Manager

Region: Nairobi

Key Result Areas

• Sourcing of suppliers, goods, services and sending out requests for quotations while ensuring that the products and supplies requested are of high quality


• Conducting pre-qualifications of suppliers as approved in the SOP and maintaining an up-to-date list of pre-qualified suppliers.


• Analyzing the RFQs and presenting them for approval


• Creating purchase orders, adhering to the relevant procurement procedures, and attaching all supporting documents.


• Sending purchase orders to the suppliers once they are approved and signed.


• Proactively following upon delivery of goods and services requested.


• Coordinates and facilitates the procurement requirements of the organization.


• Maintain records of purchases, pricing, approvals, and other important data.


• Negotiate the best deals for pricing and supply contracts


• Identify opportunities where the procurement team adds true value to the organization.


• Review of specifications or scope of work from user departments as well as timely, pro-active communication with internal customers.


• Continued liaison with internal customers to achieve greater understanding of requirements and integration.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor of Commerce/procurement/supply chain management


• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role


• Proven track record of successful performance in a similar role in a big organization.


• Experience in identifying vendors, KYC, sourcing, and vendor performance management.


• Commercially sound and good with numbers


• Good organization and communication skills, critical thinking as well as strong analytical skills


• Planning and time management skills, strong negotiation skills as well as strong business
  ethics


• Supplier/vender relationship management


• Flexibility/adaptability


• Personal quality: reliability & attention to details
