Our client, The Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) was established under the Sacco Societies Act, CAP 490B with a mandate to license, regulate and supervise the Sacco Sector in Kenya.

The Authority is seeking to recruit a high calibre motivated, visionary, dynamic and results oriented candidate to fill the following position:

Senior Legal Officer

Job Ref: MN 8124

The suitable candidate shall be employed on permanent and pensionable terms of service.

The primary role of the job is to provide litigation services.

The job holder therefore will be responsible for assisting the manager legal services in all litigation cases of the Authority.

In addition, the holder will assist in advising the Authority in the process of licensing, supervising and regulating deposit taking Saccos.

Key Responsibilities

a) Preparing and reviewing legal documents / instruments

b) Preparing legal opinions and legal briefs;

c) Drafting legal documents, leases and contracts;

d) Undertaking research on specific legal areas;

e) Identifying issues and areas for policy formulation and review;

f) Ensuring compliance with the policy, legal requirements and provisions in all the undertakings of the SASRA;

g) Advising SASRA on all legal matters;

h) Representing SASRA in litigations and other legal matters;

i) Safeguarding the interest of SASRA in all legal matters;

j) Liaising with the Office of the Attorney General on legal matters; and

k) Ensuring safe custody of SASRA’s legal documents and records.

l) Assisting the Corporation Secretary in ensuring timely circulation of Board Reports.

m) Assisting the Corporation Secretary in carrying out the

i. Board induction and training
ii. Updating the Board and Committee charters
iii. Preparation of Board work plans and reports
iv. Board evaluation
v. Governance Audit

Applicant Specifications

a) Have at least three (3) years of work experience as a Legal Officer

b) Have Bachelor’s degree in Laws (LLB) from a recognized institution;

c) Have Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law;

d) Be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya;

e) Member of the Law Society of Kenya;

f) Have a valid practicing certificate;

g) Have a Certificate in a Supervisory course lasting not less than two weeks;

h) Have proficiency in computer applications.
