Job Title: Accountant

Ref. ACC-HQ

Positions: One (1)

Supervisor: Head of Finance

Duty Station: Head Office

Main Purpose of the Job: To provide and promote financial accountability, efficiency and effectiveness of the Organization as well as to manage and update all accounts records and transactions according to the Accounting Regulations.

Field of duties and responsibilities

Key Areas and Specific Tasks

Financial Management

• Payroll Management


• Ensuring tax compliance


• Recording and Monitoring of accounts


• Maintaining financial records


• Processing receipts, supplier invoices and payments


• Asset register Management

Management of Accounts receivables and Payables

• Maintain an up to date creditors records


• Monitor creditors accounts


• Ensure effective and timely processing of invoices/payments

Budgeting and budget monitoring

• Budgeting and Budget monitoring


• Preparation of budgets


• Review of monthly income and expenditure statements


• Monitor budget performance

Financial Reporting

• Preparation of Financial Reports


• Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual performance reports


• Preparation of any other Ad-hoc Financial Reports to stakeholders.

Financial Audits

• Preparation of audit schedules


• Participate in project/organizational audits as required


• Support audit process and provision of audit documents


• Respond to audit queries and recommendations


• Implement audit recommendations

Job Specification and other Information Related to the Job

Level of Education / Academic Qualification

• At least Degree in Accounting / Finance

Specialized Training / Professional Qualifications

• CPA or its equivalent


• Competency in accounting software specifically PASTEL

Other Competencies / Abilities / Skills Required

• At least six years proven experience in managing programs


• Proven ability in Financial management of EU and USAID programs


• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills


• Self-driven, keen to details and with problem solving skills


• Good organizational planning and coordination skills


• Ability to work under minimum supervision

Relevant Job Experience

• Must have worked in a similar position for at least six years
