The Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) Limited is a State Corporation established under the Companies Act (CAP 486) of the Laws of Kenya to provide efficient, reliable, safe and cost-effective means of transporting quality oil and gas from source to the customer.

Pursuant to this objective, the Company is seeking to recruit highly motivated visionary, dynamic and results oriented candidates to fill the undermentioned position.

Chief Pilot

Grade KPC 4

a) Job Specification

i. To provide air services in support of Management, Engineering & Security Departments as a Platform for enhancing pipeline system surveillance and prompt emergency response.

ii. Perform aerial right of way patrol, surveillance and sanctioned flying duties by Management.

iii. Respond to pipeline emergencies.

iv. Check on maintenance status, fuel requirements and fuel quantities of Helicopter prior to flight and conduct post flight inspections as necessary.

v. Prepare flight plans based on weather forecasts and operational Information.

vi. Fly company helicopter according to established operations and safety procedures, including abnormal and emergency situations as prescribed in all the relevant manuals.

vii. Strict adherence to the Pilot Operating Handbook/Flight Manual and the Kenya Civil Aviation Regulations (KCARS) while executing flying duties.

viii. Support management in provision of air transport.

ix. Participate in the execution of performance management system and ensure that set targets are aligned with the strategic direction and that they are achieved.

x. Participate in the development and implementation of strategies for creating a high performing organizational culture based on transparency, integrity, accountability, performance measurement and results to ensure that programme activities are undertaken on sound management principles and practices.

xi. Participate in organizational performance reviews and business process improvement programmes as well as undertake special investigations aimed at improving organizational effectiveness.

b) Person Specification

i. Minimum eight (8) years’ experience in the aviation industry as a Pilot

ii. KCSE B plain and above.

iii. Experience on Aerial Right of Way Patrols is an added advantage.

iv. Kenya Civil Aviation Authority Commercial Pilot License (Helicopters)

v. Valid Class 1 medical

vi. AS 350 Helicopter Type Rating

vii. Current CRM, AVSEC and Dangerous Goods

viii. Minimum 2000Hrs Total Time

ix. Minimum 1000 Hrs on AS 350

x. A valid instructor rating is an added advantage

c) Key Skills & Competencies

i. Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of commercial civil aviation including broad knowledge of international and local standards.

ii. Ability to interpret and apply Civil Aviation policies and procedures.

iii. Must have good communication skills with excellent abilities to speak, write and understanding of English and aviation language.

iv. Must be able to make quick accurate judgements and handle extraordinary situations calmly.

v. Ability to maintain professional status and keep abreast of evolving trends in piloting through continuing professional education programmes.

vi. Demonstrate technical expertise in risk management, quality assurance in aviation industry.

vii. Ability to deliver Kenya Pipeline Company’s articulated vision for change, create a sense of urgency around change and motivate staff to join change efforts.

viii. Must be a team player.

ix. Demonstrable ability to work without supervision, confidentiality and initiative are key attributes.
